Still Having Trouble With Tasker

The one task I really want my phone to do is to be silent when I'm sleeping, but allow calls from 5 contacts in my contact list in case of an emergency. I followed these steps: Automating Android Using Tasker | Epiphenie.com to the tee.
I just tested it tonight. I had the volume up & dialed my phone from my husband's (a contact I want to allow to ring thru) and it rang thru. I turned the volume down & it just vibrated. I removed him from my allowed contacts & with the volume up tried calling again & it rang thru.

The task settings I have are:
Sleep Mode (from 22:00 until 07:30)
Silent Mode: On
Vibrate in notify: off
Vibrate on ringer: off
Variable set: %WeekSleep to 1

What did I do wrong? I also had my daughter try to call me (another allowed person), & with the volume down it just vibrated. Am I supposed to leave the volume up? I'm very unsure. Thanks in advance for any help,

Maritza

Some devices don't respond to changes in silent mode or ringer volume while the phone is ringing. I tried similar profiles with Motorola, Samsung and LG phones. Motorola and Samsung work as expected, but LG ignores the changes until after the phone stops ringing.

Is the profile activating (as seen in the run log), and the actions aren't having the desired effect, or is the profile not activating? As a quick test to see if your device responds well to these changes I would recommend making a simple profile that activates on any incoming call:

Context: Call [Incoming] <-- with no parameters specified
Enter:
Silent Mode Off
Ringer Volume 7 <-- or whatever the maximum is for your device

Then set Silent Mode on manually and call your phone. If it rings, then there's probably something you missed in your creation of the profile. If it doesn't ring, then your device is one of those that doesn't respond to sound changes while ringing. If that's the case, you might be able to work around it by using the Play Ringtone action immediately after turning Silent Mode off in your task. I had some success with this on the LG phone I mentioned above.

Create another profile:

Task: volume set to 7 if %CNUM matches ...

Then in your original profile add an action that enables the new profile then disables it on an exit task.

I have similar profiles set up so that my phone goes into SleepMode between certain hours (silent mode is on) but it allows anyone in my favorites list to ring through. I could not turn silent mode on/off for this purpose (some quirk with my phone) so I just had it play an .mp3 file when anyone in my favorites list called (same as a ring tone for me). Other than silent mode being on I did not turn the volume down/up. That may be similar to the problems UncleMike was discussing with certain phones he has had.

I have a sleep profile that activates when I put my phone in my clock dock. Instead of enabling silent mode I just set notification and ringtone volume to 0. Maybe that would help.

Instead of volume going up for certain contacts, mine auto replies with a text message.
