Still no 3g post update

I got this phone a few weeks ago (wouldn't of had research led me to info on its signal issues). I can hardly ever get a 3g connection at my apartment. I never had this issue on my Triumph, and 4g works just fine. Updating it seems to have just exacerbated the issue as I get error 1233 when trying to update my profile or PRL. I'm about ready to return the dumb thing and eat it's babies.
Any suggestions? I know I can root and s-off but refuse on principle that I shouldn't have to root a $300 phone just so it'll work. I'd rather get a refund, buy a phone that works out of the box, and root for fun.

Hate to say it but the S2 just went to $299 on the Virgin Mobile website.

Personally I think it is a better overall phone, but I have never used the Virgin variant so I can't say how well their firmware is made for it.

If you are within your return period I would at least swap it out. If you aren't a fan of the design then maybe try out the S2, especially if you paid the full $300.
