Still no uk kitkat

I'm quite disappointed. Still no 4.4.2. Even though it doesn't appear to be much in the N3, usually sim free internationals are the first to receive the upgrades.

Still no news and even carriers are receiving it now!

On a side note - promising upgrades heading our way either in fw or the N4? - based on what the S5 has. Looks good. Anyone else watch the live stream from MWC last night? I thought the young host who clapped himself all the time to try to get the audience going was a bit of a cock though..

Your probably going to get the update before t-mobile US does. I liked the young guy. If the Note 4 gets what the S5 got with a 6 inch screen and 3 or more GB of RAM I'll be in.

I had a live chat with my provider, Verizon, this morning regarding the availability of the upgrade to KitKat (I have a Galaxy Note 3 and my wife a Galaxy S4). The Verizon agent told me Samsung has not yet notified them when the updgrade will be available. I then had a live chat with a Samsung agent and he told me Samsung will not give out any information on the KitKat upgrade because the company does not want to give out wrong information.

I told him, and restated it in a survey after the chat, that I consider this poor PR and bad business practices. Samsung has to have a plan on the upgrade and so it has to have an idea on availability. The agent told me to just keep checking the downloads on Samsung's website and that wireless providers will notify customers.

Personally, I am not happy with how Samsung is handling this. FYI, I live in Arizona. I don't know if the upgrade will roll out all at once per carrier or in certain areas first.

It will roll out for any given carrier in one go. It usually does. Samsung have always been very cagey about upgrades to their firmwares. For instance do you know there is never an official change log for any of them.

Another anomoly is that branded carrier firmware often arrives before unbranded firmware. I have no idea how this works in the States, but in the UK you can go into an independent shop or go on line and buy a phone SIM free, and unbranded. Then pop any SIM you like in it and off you go. Contact phones, ie the ones you get "free" with a network contact are usually unlocked (like SIM free), but come with added "features" and apps. in their firmware, sometimes with features such as wireless tethering switched off. While possible to flash pure Samsung firmware using Odin PC you alter the CSC code doing so, and will never get Kies or OTA updates again, unless you flash back to your networks (carriers) firmware.

Unbranded 'sim free' Note 3 here and I have 4.4.2 already. I think i've had it for at least a week and I think I got it when I restored to factory early last week and it updated at that point.

I'm with Vodafone but I don't think that makes a difference as the phone isn't branded and doesn't have their bloat on it.

Interesting, Scootmien would you mind sharing your CSC code? I'm sure you know how, but just in case dial *#1234# it is the bottom line. I'm just wondering if you actually have a Russian or another SM-N9005 that has received 4.4.2 already. As I'm sure your aware that sometimes an independent retailer such as (in the UK) Phones4u and CPW often import other international versions when a phone is new and in short supply. I'm wondering if your lucky enough to have one of these.

I'm sure I heard Vodafone in parts of Ireland had received kitkat also, can't remember where I saw it.

Yes branded Vodafone in Ireland has it. It is on SamMobile to download. Scootmien had no branding though, just Samsung TW 4.4.2.

Firmware page on sammobile shows that France is receiving it so maybe we win the uk will get soon on our unbranded! Yay!!!

I can't believe unbranded / sim free are later! Normally I'm one of the first to receive the lastest fw :(

I checked Sammobile last night and my fw ID is MJ7 same as EE, O2 Vodafone etc

Yeah, I'm getting a little pissed off with not getting this update. Spoken to 3, Samsung, CPW etc and nothing.

I can't fathom why branded get updates first.

Easy to explain. Samsung make the update and roll it out region by region, country by country. The Networks get it straight away to add their bloat, tinker with it etc. Now if the network is on the ball they release it. If Samsung hasn't done a roll out in that country for unlocked/SIM free devices then branded/locked phones will get it first.

Annoying, but that's about it.
