Stock Android 4.1.2 - random shutdowns & restarts

PalanCZ

Hi,
I have a problem with my Galaxy S2 phone. I have the most recent official version of Android (4.1.2) for over a year.
The phone was running perfectly, but about a month ago restarts started to appear and now, sometimes the phone randomly shutdowns (no more restarts, only shutdown).
Restarts and/or shutdowns never happened when I had my phone in hand - it was lying on the table, or it was placed in the case. It restarts/turns off about 5 times a week.

I don't have root and I don't want to make a hard reset (in that case I'll lost all app settings & game progresses :P) - so the hard reset is for me the last solution I wanted to make.

I had two versions of issue reason:
* old battery - phone is 3 years old (I bought it second day after the release) and I changed battery after about 1 & 1/2 year. So it's hard to say for me if it's battery issue or not
* bad hardware contacts - I thought that because it was restarting after I placed my phone into case. So when I moved, the phone should have moved too and some vibrations combined with bad (battery or HW) contacts should have cause the problem. But the phone restarts even when lying on the table...

Any suggestions what to do? Are there some logs in the phone (like in Windows or MAC) when the phone shutdowns/restarts unexpectedly? Are there some applications that could help me to find the solution of restart, if it is caused by software?

Thanks for help, and sorry for my English - if you don't understand, ask please. I'm from Czech so English isn't my native language...

Hello and welcome to Android Forums PalanCZ! :)

Your English is a lot better than my Czech!

As a first line of attack, you could try wiping the, "cache partition", of your phone in Recovery Mode. This will clear out any accumulated rubbish.

Below is a YouTube video with instructions that will show you how to do this. Please ignore the annoying music that goes with it.

Get Android into Restore Mode and Wipe Cache in Samsung Galaxy S2

I can say now that it didn't help. I was phoning today and after let's say 30 seconds the phone restarted. The battery level was 93% before and 91% after restart. So I think that the problem is not caused by battery.

Does Samsung has some folder in system with logs /e.g. log file with informations about last turnoff/restart, crash log file, etc./?

Any other suggestions?
