Help Stock android music player problems

So something really weird is up with my music player. Recently I have cleared the data (through app manager) on the stock music player and I noticed that when I play a song that has no artist it would say on the music player widget "No songs playing" and in the stock player itself there would be no bar at the bottom (with the pause, play, song title, album) as if there were no songs playing at all. I know the song is playing as I can hear it and it is indicated on the notification bar. If I play a song that has an artist it WILL show up as normal.
