Help Stock Email App: exchange activesync - can't set my outgoing name?!

hi

the samsung stock email app works great with exchange active sync.

the only issue: i can't set a name for outgoing email.

it always shows up as my email address mail@domain.com
but i want it to show as "name name"

there doesn't seem to be any option to change this unless i'm blind.

any advice?

thanks for the quick reply.
on my screen there is no "Your Name" field.
i suspect this problem is specific to exchange activesync accounts?

Perhaps, not sure to be honest.

Are you using the "gmail" or "email" icon to open your email?
Use the "email" one and have a look in there as above if your currently using "gmail"

thank you.

i'm not talking about the Gmail app.

I'm talking about the Samsung stock email app where you can set up pop3, imap and exchange accounts. I'm using this app for my work emails.

I have the same issue with the stock 'email' app.

I can change the 'Your name' setting for POP3 and IMAP account but when looking at the settings for an exchange account there is no 'Your name' option, only account name. Is this an Galaxy S2 only problem?

I know in Go Launchers Email Widget, there is an option to set the name for outgoing email such that the receiver would see the name you have set.

In the stock, I didn't see that option. That said, if you are using Yahoo for example, then maybe the settings can be found through the actual yahoo mail online instead of through the phone email settings.

I have both Go Launcher email and the stock. Although Go Launcher have the name settings, and looks nicer with transparent background, I can only set how long between downloading emails. The stock email at least gives the option to set Peak days and hours as well as period for downloading emails.

Cheers

Hi Folks,

I've a similar issue with POP3 email set-up using an independent domain on the S2

I have succeeded in setting up a pop3 email account, which receives mail to joebloggs@independentdomain.com fine. But when I send from this account it puts usernamepop3@popserver.com in the from field of the sending email. any ideas??

usernamepop3 is the logon username to the Pop3 server, but the email address is joebloggs@independentdomain.com and I obviously want that address in the from field in any emails that I send. Can anyone let me know how I might solve this to get the correct email address in the from field???

my sample details:
email address: joebloggs@independentdomain.com
POP3 server: popserver.com
pop3 username: usernamepop3

thanks for all replies,
Horgand

I also have the same question on my Galaxy S II (Android 2.3.4).

I'm unable to change the outgoing name value from mine exchange activesync account (it really is a Zimbra server), as result my outgoing name is show as my username.

Is there any solution available?

Not sure what you mean by outgoing name value but my previous post (3 post back) might be the answer.

The stock email app don't allow setting a value such that email sent will show what name. However, I do know that for Yahoo and Hotmail (Web), they have settings for you to set name to be shown when sending emails. I think sending email from the phone will go through that server, so settings from there should apply. Otherwise, it should show the email address only (or similar)

Go Launcher Email have the option in the app itself.

Cheers

That's odd. My previous GT-5801 with Froyo allow me to change my name.
Hoping that the ICS launch for SGS II solves this "bug".

I can't get my S2 (w gingerbread android OS) to send email when I try to put a different email address in the from field than I am using for (pop3) server logon. This affects me as I am using an independent domain (e.g. joebloggs@independentdomain.com) and logging in to an ISPs pop3 server with their username. (e.g. usernamepop3)

I've tried setting this up on the S2 with the account options:
hotmail
yahoo mail
exchange server

and K9

when I've entered the details it checks the config of incoming and outgoing servers during set-up fine. Then it looks like the email is sent from joebloggs@independentdomain.com fine. But when I check the email address I sent the email to, it is not received?? yet there is no error msgs etc when sending at all? What's happening here???

With my original set up I can send from usernamepop3@pop3server.com fine, but only with that address in the from field. The issue is that this is not my email address and if recipients hit reply they won't be able to route the email back to me. (it gives them an error)

So anyone solved how to get a separate pop3 logon and a different 'from' email address displaying and sending ok from the S2??? and if so how did you do it???

thanks for any assistance.

Just tried this again and I got it working...., at f****** last!!

Just set up account, (using add account in email), tried Premium account first and then reset using same settings as before and then it works?!

Go Figure!? cos I can't, but that's not really important, at least it now works.

So soln seems to play around with premium account and then reset using manual set up and plug in all the various usernames, email addresses and servers and it works!!

I didnt think you could change your Send name on any exchange account, as it just fetches all your details from the exchange server. Even in Outlook you can't change it can you?

Jeremy,

I was just trying to get a Pop3 email account using an independent domain address have that independent domain address in the from field of the email. That's all.

It repeatedly didn't work on my Samsung S2 over several months using any account type(e.g. hotmail, yahoo, etc), different settings and even using a different client email (K9) on for whatever reasons. Even though the same settings would work on my laptopm using the S2 as a tethering device- go figure!? Anyway I happened on a working solution as described above, I'm not sure I would even be able to do this again. But above is what I did and its working. At last!!!

Has anybody fixed this issue? I got hotmail/live mail but can not set outgoing name when using exchange activesync!
