Help Stock Gallery Constantly Force Closing.

Hi.

The stock gallery on my Droid X suddenly started to force close constantly.

I tried to access the gallery; however, as soon as it appeared, I was immediately brought back to my homescreen. I had tried rebooting and battery pulling, the force closing still happens.

Does anyone happen to know any solutions to this problem?

My phone just started having a similar issue today. I don't get the FC message, but the app just closes for no reason.

This might fix the closing gallery issue on a stock droid x :

plug the phone into your pc via usb

copy all of the files and folders on your sd card to your pc hard drive

on your phone, go to settings > sd card and phone storage > and pick unmount the sd card. then format it and mount.

at this point, gallery should open again and tell you that there are no files to display. then you copy all of the files / folders off of your hard drive back onto the card.

hope that this helps.

I will give this a shot when I get home. Can you guys see the other stuff on your sd card?(i.e. angry birds) also, if I open camera I can see the pictures I have taken but nothing else.

that mite help. i was going to suggest that the memory card was the problem. im having the same issue. i tried putting in another memory card and had no issues with the gallery opening up. so im going to try wiping my memory card and starting over with it to see if that helps

I have unmounted, deleted etc files from my sd card and then remounted added the files again. I see my pic folders on my DX but for some odd reason w/in the default Gallery app, there are no pictures?? This all started after the recent update. Any ideas? Thxs

I had the same issue but had some other issues as well so I did a wipe/format and reinstalled the ROM and my issues were gone. So this makes me wonder, if you go to Settings-->Applications-->Manage applications-->Choose All-->Gallery and choose Clear Data and then reboot, what happens?

I was able to resolve the issue of the stock gallery force closing all the time without needing to unmount my SD card or transfer all of my files back and forth.

I was looking at the 3D Gallery and started to notice that one particular file did not display an image, just a blank (it only displayed the number of "images"). When I looked into the file, all of the images within that file displayed no images, just blanks. Initially, I thought that the file was still loading. After waiting for a while, the file still displayed a blank. I then realized that this particular file might be corrupted and be causing the endless force closes in the stock gallery. So I simply deleted that file from the 3D Gallery and, sure enough, stock gallery no longer force closed.

Not exactly sure what's up but it appears I fixed one problem (now using Gallery 3D) BUT now my 600 or so pictures have doubled!! At least it works and I can c my pics. What is weird: My SD Card only has the the singles of each pic, its w/in the app there are doubles.

If rebooting / battery pull doesn't fix it, it might be solved by clearing the cache in the gallery application.

Yes, try clearing data and cache in settings->applications->gallery.

I'm not sure if this is a feature or a bug yet, but the new 2.2.1 gallery is much more finicky when it comes to corrupted files.

The 3d gallery will show you the file is there, but if you try to view it, you get an error. This 2.2.1 gallery won't open at all.

I'd bet it's a bug and they wouldn't really want it to work the way it is now.

Same issue, I have completed everything listed above and even went as far as to go into Files app and move everything out of DCIM into my folders under Adroid.... at a lost and kinda annoyed as i am sure everyone else is.

EDIT another note is out side of my files app i can't access the gallery through like pictured editing apps

Mine started acting up again. I removed all images from my sd nd then it launched. I added my photos back and now it works. I suspect it was a corrupted image in my music directory.

Alright so moved over everything from card to comp and back again and that worked it just is laggy as hell when opening my pictures....

add me to the mix. my gallery is launching properly either. it FCs immediately. i can however see my pictures if i go into the camera first, then click on the one thumbnail in the lower left corner. this HAS to be an issue related to the recent update.

There's not going to be a real fix anytime soon. Somehow, google/motorola made the 2.2.1 gallery more sensitive to corrupted files. The nexus 1 gallery 3d still displays the thumbnails, but it cashes 2.2.1 gallery.

It's probably going to take an OTA update to fix that.

I download a weekly video and each week after I delete the video, it causes my gallery to crash. I go into the gallery 3d, the same corrupted file is there again, I delete it and then my 2.2.1 gallery works again.

I do remember this happening right after i deleted a couple of videos. However i can't find any of the Blank grey with a "?" pics.

The 3D gallery you are talking about is just where it is set up like a ipod where you can scroll through the pics easier?....
right?
