Root Stock JB Nandroid Backup/Rooted and Unlocked with S-OFF

Yeh, getting pretty good at fastboot with all the practice the last few days lol.
One question before I try this. The kernel with this is rw correct?

This is the stock kernel. I was running Simon's kernel before I flashed the CWM backup and now I'm not.

Had to make ADW EX a system app to stop being asked which launcher I wanted to run at boot.

I'm S-Off and still had to make ADW EX a system app in order for it to stick. I haven't needed to do that with the custom kernels. It looks like all my other changes are ok though. Just had to do it for the launcher.

Thanks for clarifying that Ironhide. I guess I should have explained it a little more. :D

I had that same problem with dolphin browser. it would not stick as default. I cleared cache and defaults on the stock browser and it stuck since. I just tried adw ex free version and it sticks after reboot. try clearing data, cache and defaults with apps that don't behave

OK cool. That's good to know. The only time I've had that problem was with the stock kernels. Didn't have to do it w/ Simon's Sickle kernel. Making it a system app solved the problem though. I'll remember your fix and give it a try next time if need be.

I'm flashing O_Splaterhands deodexed apps now. :D

So I put cwm recovery on my phone just to flash this. Made a backup before trying. However now recovery says "no data found" for both this backup and the back up I just created. Any ideas? (PS cwm pales by comparison to twrp imho) lol.

have you checked the sdcard for the backups?? it should be in the clockworkmod folder. backup needs to be on the sdcard not the internal storage. also u sure u didnt format the sdcard thru recovery when flashing?

One of those backups was one I made five minutes previous. Still said no data. Yes they are on the sd card and I even transferred the copies of the backups over again to make sure something didn't happen the first time. It keeps reading no data. So I just flashed back to twrp and restored a backup made there. I'll just wait for a workable flash rom of jb. :)

try this. cwm backup has to follow the path cwm makes. reflash cwm recovery and format sdcard thru mount tab. make a backup and after its done don't reboot but go to restore and see if a backup was made and shows up. if so remove battery and use reader to navigate to last folder in clockworkmod folder which will be dated. now unzip the nandroid u downloaded which will be dated but with stock_jb at end. delete the stock_jb from name of folder and copy it to folder next to ur recently made backup. the date format should look the same but with different date. now reinsert sdcard to phone and boot into recovery and go to restore tab and see if there are now 2 backups to choose from. if it's there then wipe data/cache and wipe dalvik cache then flash downloaded nandroid then fix permissions. hopefully that helps somehow. good luck

Didn't know if you knew it or not but when you restore a backup, it automatically wipes the caches. It sure won't hurt any to do it manually though. Also, the backup folder will flash as it is named. There is no need to alter it.

I switched from TWRP back to CWM in order to flash mine. I went ahead and made a backup so a folder was created and placed the download from here in it, then flashed as a backup.

For some reason his phone is not reading his sd card. He probably needs to backup all of his data to a pc then format the sd card with his phone via settings/storage/unmount SD card/Erase SD card. I think that's probably the easiest way to do it.

NB. To be clear, this method did not require me to be s-off.

I am running a Boost-specific Clockworkmod (cwm) 6.0.2.8. Because I was previously on Shin's JB ROM, I lost USB disk mode (Thanks, Obama), so I used 'adb push' to copy this backup to a new directory /sdcard2/clockworkmod/backup/2013-07-19.01.57.24Stock_JB. Then did 'adb reboot bootloader', went into the recovery (where I had previously flashed cwm recovery), and peformed a backup from the new dir. Worked brilliantly. Thanks to ALL the giants who made all of this possible.

Turns out, I'm having wifi problems with this. UPDATE: That were somehow not solved by a simple restart but mysteriously solved following a *failed* moonshine s-off attempt that ended after 10 "stages" in the error "Don't drink and shine".

I will try that tomorrow at some point. Just think it's weird that I flashed back to twrp and it read my SD card fine. When I had cwm I even created other folders on my card and cwm showed them but kept saying no data in the backup folder it created. Even the backup I had just made five minutes previous in cwm without rebooting.

Yeah. Something doesn't sound right. CWM should have read your sd card. If something like that happens to me, I usually start from scratch. That does away with all the time it takes to troubleshoot.

I would start with a new recovery.img. Who knows, yours may be corrupt. Also, along they way I've found that some sd cards just act funny sometimes.

Just keep working at it and it'll work. Hopefully you'll get it on your next try.

Going to re-download the img for cwm and copy everything over from my sdcard and format it. Do you suggest formatting while in cwm?

I think just using your phone settings/storage to format will be fine instead of CWM. You can also use a pc. Your call.
