Help Stock mail app problem

I have a dinc 2. It is on the 2.3.4 version of android. This problem started right after the last OTA update. For some reason I still like the stock mail app. But since the OTA update I have not be able to have the mail app refresh or push email to my phone. I have used touchdown, K9, and maildroid. All three have no problem with pushing email. I use Microsoft Exchange and yahoo email. Both accounts work fine in other apps, but the Mail app does not work. I have done a soft reset and a factory reset. No luck on either.

I would love to root the phone, but there is no simple way to do it with a Mac that I have found. Any other advice would be great. Thanks folks.

I have had issues with the stock email app myself. I finally relented and just made the switch to TouchDown. After getting used to it, it's so much more powerful than the stock email app that I'm actually I had the issues that forced me to make the switch in the first place.

There are two items that need to be checked. Background data and auto sync both have to be selected. You just have to go and turn off everything you do not want to auto sync. I feel kind of stupid. I have been battling this issue for a long time. But it is fixed now. So my only issue at this point is being stupid difficult to root my phone. I will wait till they can do it with the mac and then be happy.
