Stock Message application question

When I receive a picture in the stock message application it is received as a slideshow. When I click to view, it opens and then after a couple of seconds it closes. Is there anyway of keeping the picture open for longer, other than saving and opening seperately?

Tap the screen and select pause

When I tap the screen, it goes blank and I can't see the picture. Sequence goes like this:

1. Receive a MMS (Sent from LG Chocolate on Verizon)
2. Picture attached is a "slideshow"
3. Open slideshow
4. Picture displays for two (2) seconds, then closes
5. If I open the slideshow and then tap the screen and try to pause, the screen goes blank.

I can't believe there is no way to alter how a slideshow/mms is presented. It's making me crazy. ANYONE have ANY ideas?

I am sure I saved an mms a while back then could view it through stock albumbs or whatever you use either by long pressing pickie and getting option to save or going into menu and see if there is an option there.

Yes, I knew that. I want to be able to view immediately without saving. I am trying Handcent, and it's working pretty well. However, in Handcent, I seem to be having trouble viewing video. I am just amazed that Android/HTC doesn't do MMS better than my Blackberry did...
