Root stock recovery stock rom

Luna Bar

Lurker
The stock recovery shows the build number of the stock ROM so if you put the T-Mobile stock recovery on a metro zmax or vice versa it won't match and someone might notice. If someone notices that the build numbers don't match they will know you have rooted the phone and they probably won't honor the warranty.
Edit: I also know of at least 3 variants, MetroPCS, T-Mobile, and Univision. I think there might also be a Walmart family mobile version as well.
@Masterchief87 hi, please i need your help can you read me a litle pleaseeee.. look my ZTE ZMAX metro pcs it was rooted but anymore im on carbon custom rom 5.1.1 but the TWRP recovery is gone so i installed the stock recovery, so i trying to flash the stock rom of your post and not installed they say failed aborted error something like that. Iwant back to stock but i cant .. can you help me ? say yes please :-/

After reading this thread I have modified my MetroPCS and T-Mobile stock ROMs so that they not only return your ROM to 100% stock unrooted status but they also remove twrp and flash the stock recovery. I should have them uploaded later tonight. I decided to do it this way because there are quite a few people who don't understand the difference between a twrp backup and a recovery. I know of at least one case where someone deleted their OS and then flashed the stock recovery thinking it would fix their problem, when in fact it just removed twrp and left them with a permanent brick.

@Luna Bar How are you trying to install the stock rom? Are you flashing stock firmware or trying to install a rom.zip through the stock recovery? If the latter, you cannot install a rom through the stock recovery.

I have no ZTE experience, so I can't give too much advice, but I would think you need to install the latest version of TWRP back to your device and then flash a new rom or flash a stock rom.

Or if stock firmware is available for your device (not sure how they flash stock firmware on a ZTE) you might want to download the official firmware and use whatever tool ZTE requires to return the device to stock.

OK, first off, the custom ROMs require you to flash a modem zip in order for them to work right. You are having problems because you didn't flash this modem zip along with the ROM. If you just flash the correct modem the issues you are having will go away.

Also, the stock recovery won't flash anything but updates that were made and packaged by zte. It won't flash the stock ROM because I'm the one who put it together and made it flashable. It can only be flashed with twrp recovery.

The stock recovery is meant to be the last thing you flash after you have already flashed the stock ROM and made sure everything is working correctly.

You have two choices.
You can reinstall twrp and flash the correct modem zip which will fix the problems that made you want to go back to stock.
Or you can reinstall twrp then flash the stock ROM. If you decide to flash the stock ROM, flash the stock recovery afterwards, after you reboot to android and make sure everything is working properly.

The ROM is rooted but root access is disabled until you turn it on in developer options. Look for developer options in settings. If you don't see developer options you need to go into about phone and tap the build number 7 times or until it enables developer options. Once you do that go back and go into developer options and enable root access for apps and adb. Then you will be able to reinstall twrp recovery and flash the modem zip which will fix all the problems that made you want to go back to stock in the first place.

Lastly, read read read...all of this information I'm giving you is already here just waiting to be read.
