Root Stock Recovery warning symbol

I just got my refurbished phone from Asurion.
I was playing around and chose the stock recovery.
It brings me to a triangle with an exclamation point.
Is this normal?
It did it both with and without the memory card in.
The only way to exit was to remove the battery. Is this normal?

That is the stock recovery.

To get out of it, press both Volume buttons and the Power button simultaneously, and the menu will appear. Then you can choose to reboot the device.
