Help stock rom: any way to hide the status bar?

I've spent a while searching, is there anything out there to hide the status/notification bar?

Those few extra pixels for Web browsing are very handy, and it will also help reduce screen burn.

any ideas?

Use a launcher like go launcher and it has the option to hide the bar.
