Stock rom flash using odin not working.

I've flashed many roms over the last few years but I needed to unlock my phone (cyanogenmod wouldn't unlock sim card properly). So I came to the conclusion through the internet that I'd need to go back to stock rom and then unlock the phone there. I flashed the stock(cf-root) rom (didn't read that I need a version matching my current os) and now it seems my phone soft bricked.

I can still download stuff through odin which succeeds in installing the roms but doesn't allow me to boot past the samsung logo.

How do I go about fixing this?

Note: I bought the phone through Virgin Mobile (Bell) in Canada.

Just need the firmware you are on trying to flash VM stock ROM will brick your device. Can you get the firmware

So I got the phone working again but I'm having difficulty unlocking my phone so I can use my new sim card (different provider). I've tried Galaxy_s unlock and the app made my chainfire but neither work. Is there any other free method to unlock my phone?

edit: managed to unlock it!
