Help Stock Rom?

Hello world. I rooted my admire. Didn't back it up/deleted the metroweb browser because I didn't know any better. Now I would like to take it back to it's factory settings. My main goal is to get the stock metroweb browser back. How do I go about this?

1.) you need to reinstall
2.) you need to fix permissions

>Step 1<
Do you use root explorer? or another file explorer for root...
if so, use it to go to
system/app & locate
Browser.apk (metroweb)
Browser.odex (metroweb)
Tap or long click.. Browser.apk and try to reinsall it.

If it works go to Step 2
but if not continue here:
if those two file are not there or it wont install...
here they are from my Samsung Admire at end of post

(enable usb)
Unzip and place Browser.apk and Browser.odex on your sd card
(disable usb)

In Root Explorer Click Mount R/W (Read/Write)
copy or move both files to system/app.
.............................................................

>Step 2<

you are going to have to fix permissions
on both Browser.apk and Browser.odex if they got messed up.
( perms should be rw-r--r-- )
if they are not:
Make sure Mount R/W (Read/Write) is on
Long Click the Browser.apk select Permissions
Change the permissions to:

User: Read & Write
Group: Read
Others: Read

click Okay (permissions should have changed to rw-r--r-- )

(then Do the same to with Browser.odex)

Click Mount R/O (Read Only)
reboot

hope all gos well :)

THANK YOU FOR THE HELP!
Not all is well just yet. From following your instructions, the app itself is back on my drawer. However, when I was on RootExplorer, it wouldn't let me install the application fully and would say "Application not installed". When I actually run the browser, the web pages will not load up...

I had this EXACT same thing happen to me, and thanks to Locklady... I was able to fix it.

You will NOT be able to just install Metroweb from the Browser.apk. It will not work.

1. Copy Browser.apk and Browser.odex from your computer to the SD Card you use in your Android.
2. After copying the files and remounting the SD Card in your Admire, open Root Explorer.
3. Browse to where you put the Browser.apk and Browser.odex files on your SD Card. I used the /Backup folder.
4. Long press the Browser.apk and choose copy.
5. Browse to /system/app and in the top right corner be sure you are in R/W mode (R/O is the default).
6. Copy the file to /system/app and check to ensure the file was copied.
7. Repeat the steps above with Browser.odex to /system/app and again check to ensure the file was copied.
8. Check the permissions on each file to ensure it is as Locklady describes above.
9. Change the folder back to R/O in the upper right corner.
10. Shutdown your phone completely. After it is off remove the battery to be sure it is off.
11. Turn it back on and you will fine MetroWeb in your applications again! :)

Thanks again to Locklady for all of her help!

Thanks, I see the app, but even after following your tips, the pages still aren't loading when I use it...

I had that problem once...

try these trouble shooting tips: one of them worked for me, although idk which one..lol

=================================
***go to (menu/manage apps)
all tab
find Metro Web click it..
and see if it says "Uninstall Updates"
rather than just "Uninstall"

press "Uninstall Updates" (if its there).
it'll warn you that you will be using the stock application... agree and continue.

while your in there...clear cache and clear data

=================================

***also be sure that both
Browser.apk and
Browser.odex are same permissions -rw-r--r--
=================================

***and that when you are in root explorer altering things that you are mounted as R/W ( read write)
or perms wont stick.
then back to R/O ( read only) when finished
( i made this mistake TOO MANY TIMES:o)
=================================

***in "system/app"
does Browser.apk have _fro at the end? (Browser.apk _fro)
(_fro stands for Froyo)

(if it does... notice that in "root/data/data"
the folder that corresponds to Browser.apk may say "mismatched uid")

rename it BACK TO Browser.apk (take the _fro off the end)
...and that will fix the "mismatched uid" issue...

hope one of these things correct your problem;)

Thanks! When I did this, the browser would stop freezing, even at that, websites still aren't loading...

Ok so your Web works on Wifi? I think it is something with Metro then on your account maybe.

Have you tried opening a ticket with them?

My phone isn't even activated.

I turned my phone off, then on, and the metro mobi page loaded up, but when I tried to go to Google, it wouldn't load.

Thanks for this thread.

I am trying to restore metroweb after rooting and un-installing browser.apk using titanium backup and not making a backup beforehand :(

I've downloaded the files, used root explorer, changed the app directory permissions, pasted the files in, re-booted and nothing.

I've tried installing the browser.apk and it says (no-install) next to it.

Thanks in advance for some help.
