Stop being hijacked to useless "mobile" websites

To make any and all websites see your phone as a desktop

"Open your browser, enter "about:debug" (without quotes )into the address bar, then hit the "Go" button on your keyboard—don't tap the search/URL suggestion that comes up. You'll notice that the browser now does, well, nothing. But hit your Menu key, choose the "More" option, then select Settings. Scroll down some, and you'll see a new collection of advanced options there, including a "UAString" option. Click that, then choose between Android, desktop, or iPhone user strings to change what browser web sites think you're visiting with. "

SELECT "DESKTOP"

Love this trick also... Now i can view all my porn sites without this 1 dollar bullsh#$ hahaha jkin... does anyone else know what these extra settings control???

wow, i been looking for a way to do this, I use fake chrome hoping it would do this, was a little faster but didnt do it alone. thanks for the tip

This does not work for every site btw. Try espn.com it is the mobile version. It even shows the m.espn.com in the address bar.

so this does work but i have to do it again when i close my browser itll still say its set to desktop but it will still pull up a mobile site unless i do the whole about debug process again if theres anyway to keep it like that or a shortcut to doin this id like to know

I had trouble with the stock browser on Ebay, even after the "desktop" fix.
Ebays mobile site is worthless, and their cookies are evil.
I gave up and now am trying Dolphin, set to "desktop".
Works for now ,my fingers are crossed .

You can set Opera Mini to view "full / desktop" sites via a simple setting change.

I usually stay in mobile view myself, but occassionally will go into desktop view in Opera Mini. Either view is superfast for rendering as webpages go through compression before it gets to your phone. But this happens almost instantaneously. In the time it takes Dolphin to load one page, I will have surfed 3-4 pages already.

I do not see the settings for this

Under advanced settings, there is a "Website Settings" but it is greyed out.

Nevermind, I was typing about:config . Got it. Thanks for tip.

This isnt working for me.In advanced settings I only see set search, web settings, and rest .If someone could help out greatly appreciated.

Opera use to work awesome for me on my Blackberry as CBS wouldn't let you view fantasy hockey on their mobile sites. A-holes!

Awesome trick!

Hi! I just got my Epic last week and I tried following the above directions to view desktop mode but when I go into my settings menu (after about:debug), I don't have a UAString option but it does show the other debug options (like v8 counter) to know the the debug went through. Any ideas? Thanks!

Go under settings...all the way at the bottom...

It's not there on my Epic either (just purchased a few days ago). When I bring up the menu, hit More, and scroll to the bottom, I get:
Downloads
Settings
Start performance testing
Dump V8 counters

When I hit Settings and scroll down, I get under the Debug header:

Show JavaScript console
Single column rendering
Use wide viewport
Normal rendering
Enable tracing
Enable light touch
Enable navigation cache d
Set JS flags

Back
Top Bottom
