Stop goo's evil.plot

How do we prevent their lockdown of OUR phones? There is a website, keepandroidopen.org, but I'm not sure how helpful it is. Developers can resist, I suppise. How the can the rest of us foil them?

That is interesting but it's not what I meant. Apparently goo is planning on a lockdown which would reduce functionality and give them nearly total control. I know it sounds as if it's a bad Saturday morning cartoon but at least a tv set would have other channels and of course the off button. Seriously, everyone should check out keepandroidopen.org. If I knew how to link to it I would.

A lot of your post seem like you are drunk or getting to a point of where you do not clearly speak your mind.

No, I am not drunk, nor was I when I posted that. I am simply attempting to alert people to the dangers of goo. I have loathed them for a long time and they have just made themselves even more detestable. Perhaps someone will add a link to How Google Ruined Your Phone, another must read.

I can't see that happening where I am, China. Where Android devices are very popular, but Google ("goo") has very little involvement and control. Maybe elsewhere that may happen?

You do have options.

1 - you can definitely try a crapple phone.
2 - you can also try two tin cans and a string.
3 - landline

IMO it's not worth losing sleep over.
I do what I can to minimize intrusiveness and data collection by using a blocker (Blokada), turning off all the available toggles for what gets saved/sent to Google, not using Google to log into anything other than my Google account etc.
On my home wifi I also have a Pi-hole running.
Beyond that I don't worry about it.

A full English paragraph, wish you would do more of those instead of cutting up the worst of sentences.. Makes me look good in comparrison hahaaa.

That sounds great. I guess it's for rich people with a lot of spare time. Is a regular ad blocker enough, especially if it's only a device or two?

I'm not rich, and it can run on a cheap Pi. It's more an investment of time to set it up and maintain it (not much really but a learning curve if it's new stuff for you).

Yes ad blockers work on individual devices and are good when you're out and about on the cell network. A Pi-hole is for your home network and because it works on the network level it can block stuff on devices like TVs and streaming boxes that you otherwise can't put blockers on.
