Stop Search for Network

I am going to be on a long flight and would like to just use Wifi without my phone for searching for network. Any suggestions?

Nope ,That will disable all wireless functions including Wi-Fi :)

The best option is to simply remove the SIM card , Now you will have no cellular signal but still be able to fully use Wi-Fi {and play games etc on the phone} ;)

I thought Wifi could be enabled with cellular turned off? I thought I had read several threads on here about that.

Also, those on Sprint and Verizon won't be able to remove their SIM cards, since there are none...

Sorry I am basing my response on my HTC Magic , which airplane mode disables WiFi , Cellular network , Bluetooth even :)

I suppose my suggestion about the SIM card is out of the window. I never knew you guys don't have SIM cards :D What do you use then? I'm interested for future reference :)
 
I would also like to be able to use WiFi without the cellular searching for the network. When I'm at work/school there isn't a signal but there is WiFi and the constant searching drains the battery fast.

Sorry didn't see this thread for a while. Sprint / Verizon do not use SIM cards, the ESN's etc are embedded in the phones.

Lame I know, but that's the way it is here with CDMA.
 
Airplane mode does disable the GPS on the Motorola Droid.

Even stranger, all the apps and the power control widget still think the GPS is on, but it cannot find any satellites until airplane mode is turned off.

I'm going to file a bug...
 
Seems to be a bit of a glitch with Android. Or something no-one has thought of. I have a G2 (T-Mobile branded HTC Hero) and I can see no way of turning off the phone and keeping WiFi on.
