Stopped by a Verizon Store today

EDIT: Corporate Store btw
Needed to pick up the extended battery for my T-Bolt. I love HTC's design and implementation aside from battery life :(
Since I knew what I needed to purchase I was forced to wait for about 20-30 minutes on an associate. It was very busy and I should know better than to go at 6pm. It gave me an excuse to play with the latest crop of phones.

Droid Charge- The screen jumps out at you. I realize this is personal preference but I don't prefer it. I'm a photographer (at heart) and really hate the over saturated screens. However, that doesn't mean that it wouldn't be great for gaming. I'm sure it'd rock for games. Honestly the screen feels larger than my T-Bolt, and for me that wasn't a good thing. I can't hate too much, I don't see Charge owners running into the store for an extended battery (which they were sold out of the T-Bolt's battery...not a good sign lol)

Droid X2 - It's a Droid X with the same crappy Ninja Blur but a dual-core CPU that can't be fully utilized. I actually owned a Droid X for a few months. It's a great phone once it was rooted and I put Liberty on it. It was my favorite rom for that phone. Again, I never hear Motorola users complain about the battery. I didn't really notice a huge difference in the display. Maybe if I had spent more time with it.

Droid Incredible 2 - I actually owned the DInc for about 7 months and loved it. This feels like a polished up 2011 model. The screen didn't even feel larger to me, even though it is. Maybe it's because it was surrounded by all these 4.3" phones?

LG Revolution - This feels like a solid and very nice phone to hold. The UI was very responsive, but then I found a few little LG customizations that I wasn't a huge fan of. Mainly sounds (like I had experienced on older LG phones) and the dialer. It seems like a solid phone, but doesn't really stand out too much from the crowd. Again, maybe I didn't give it enough time.

That was about it, I had roughly 3-5 minutes with each phone. Not enough time to get a solid opinion. If I didn't have my T-Bolt and needed to choose one of these phones for my next one...I'm not sure which I'd pick. It would probably be the DX2 or the Charge. I'd just feel more confident in the battery life of each device. Even if I hate the UI I can always switch to a different launcher and possibly install a custom ROM. Since 4G is in my area I'd probably go with the Charge. If my area wasn't slated until 2012/2013 to receive 4g then the X2 would probably win out.

Those who are searching for a new phone on Verizon...you are looking at a good time. There are many options and flavors to satisfy just about any desire. There is one exception I guess...an Android phone with a great keyboard. Verizon really needs one.

BTW...The store was sold out but I did manage to get and extended battery online. The sad part was that even the store couldn't order one for me. How does that work?

Funny, I just went in last night to check on my upgrade eligibility.

The Charge comes with a neat accessory (for purchase, of course): MM Dock with battery charger with the spare battery. It costs like $50, though....

Not sure on the others...

I'm not getting a phone with physical buttons - ever.

I'd like, but don'tahve to ahve, a physical KB.

I have to have a fast (really fast?) DC or QC processor. I need speed. I'll buy extra batteries if I need to lol.

Basically, I need VZW to go to Samsung and contract with them to get the GSII here now, dammit!

Salesman tried to sell me a charge - I think I need a business car with my AF login name written on it...idiot told me in hte same breath that 1) he had never heard of the GSII, and 2) The Charge was (in his opinion, of course) a much better phone than that other phone, whatever it was.

*Sigh*

If Motorola unlocks the bootloader and does not overly customize the OS, I'll get a D3 or bionic, whichever is better, I suppose and root and go back to plain vanilla Android. Perhaps.

I did the same thing yesterday. The x2 has the qHD screen. Big difference over the dx. I had them side by side.

Hmm I disagree. I think the current lineup is complete junk. It has been 14 months and there still isn't a phone that isn't much better than the HTC Incredible. The Thunderbolt is a little bigger and has LTE but other than that it is the same - also the battery life is horrific. And the 4.3" isn't even a plus for everyone.

The Samsungs aren't supported by devs and still has physical buttons. The Motorola phones have signed bootloaders and crappy UI.

All in all it is one huge Verizon FAIL. I never thought 14 months later that there wouldn't be a phone upgrading to. Just crazy.

Just got my extended battery today. It's bulky but still feels comfortable. I actually find it easier to hold now.
Ordered a Seidio Active case to use with the extended battery. I'll be interested to see how that pans out. Thanks to Amazon Prime I won't wait long, should be in tomorrow. Only had to pay $3.99 overnight shipping :D
I'm really interested to see DC and QC processors in tablets. I just don't see my handset having much of a need at this point. I'd like to hold out for a Tegra 3 tablet. That may not be hard to do considering my funds are tied up in home improvements atm.

If anything I think it just speaks to the quality of the Incredible/Droid X phones.

You don't have to agree and I certainly respect and understand your points. I'm just used to a Verizon Wireless that only hosted a couple of crappy WinMo phone and BB's. Today we have a choice 7 new Android handsets on the carrier and a Windows Phone 7 device. All 7 Android phones are solid phones in my opinion. I don't think that it's fair to say cutting-edge other than the LTE aspect. Especially with DC phones popping up on other carriers. I just can't think of a time in the VZW lineup that I would have this type of choice.
1. LG Revolution - Will capture LG fans
2. Xperia Play - For the gamer and vanilla Android users
3. Droid X2 - For the DC market
4. Droid Charge - 4G, great battery life, and a big bright display
5. DInc2 - mild upgrade on a solid platform.
6. Casio G'Zone Commando - Forgot to mention, I played with this phone too and really liked it. It's not as fast or fluid but I know I could beat that $h!t out of it and not worry about it. The screen is a decent size and it's very usable speed wise.
7. Thunderbolt - EVO for VZW, so all the customers who wanted VZW with an EVO like phone will now be happy. I know I am :D

I hear you. I didn't think they'd put all their eggs in the LTE basket and recycle a bunch of hardware from 2010. I'm a little disappointed now that my annual upgrade is available. I just picked up a Droid Charge from ebay for a good price because I didn't want to burn it. I'm holding out for the SGSII and figure I can make back at least 75% on resale of the Charge within the next 6 months.

I'm eyeing LG Revolution because of the unlocked bootloader, but it's going to be another average run of the mill android phone.

I am waiting on the Samsung Galaxy S2 when it ever gets to Verizon. I do like the screen. While I really think that Verizon made a mistake by discontinuing the DInc, it just speaks to the phone's power and usability that noting coming out blows me away. The main reason that I would change is for the larger/brighter screen, and the Dual Core processor. I will wait a little bit though to see how the battery life is and get some feedback from Verizon users.

The Charge is a nice phone. Battery life is good. HTC has this knack for throwing these very anemic batteries into their phones to save on costs. The Thunderbolt is a great device, but you definitely need an extended battery for this phone.

The Droid X2 is a nice device as well. The dual core chipsets really only matter for processing high definition video on the devices. I truly believe people grossly overestimate how the specs on the devices are supposed to meet their needs. The X2 is a great device and for most applications, the dual core chipset is overkill. Granted, everyone is deluded into believing they need the latest and greatest at this moment in time, but if you really look at how you use your device, the current devices work just fine.

I have the Droid X and the Incredible 2 (one is a personal phone, the other is a corporate phone) and both are just fine. I was going to upgrade the Droid X, but I let the wife take the upgrade and I'll just hold off. The Incredible 2 is very slick and I think it is a great option.

Believe me when I tell you that I fall into that category of extreme power user for my phones and computers. I can assure you that for 99% of the users here, the current offerings are just fine for your needs and do not be deluded into believing you need a dual core device because the only advantage right now is for processing high definition video. If you want your web pages to load 4 nanoseconds faster, then get an lte device and call it a day.

I have the dx. Imo, the present phones aren't good enough for me to upgrade to. This is my last annual upgrade allowed, so I want to use it wisely.

I am absolutely certain that it is not about cost. The cost difference to HTC for a 1250mAH battery versus a 1600mAH battery is minuscule. The problem is size and weight. HTC seems to box themselves in where they do not have the weight or the size budget for a bigger battery.

I'm in the same boat with my last annual upgrade. The problem is that the longer I wait, the closer I get to the end of my contract which would ultimately nullify the early upgrade.

Just because you are able to buy a new phone does not mean you HAVE to.

Ponder this reality: A new phone is not always an upgrade.

I completely understand that but I am tracking with him... the longer we wait to upgrade now just pushes out our next upgrade.
