Help Stopping Apps Launching...

Again, probably an old one, but how do I stop certain apps launching automatically, when I don't want them to? This is not just after switching the phone on, but at various times during the day, even after I've force-closed them.
The usual culprits are Facebook, Footprints (whatever that is), Flickr, Orange Messenger, Orange Photo uploader etc etc etc. All things I don't use, and don't want running in the background.
The phone is on Orange and Android 2.2.

Thanx
Mark

If you root your current rom, control wise, you can do the same.

There is a root app called autostarts, but I have found it is not preventing all apps from start up.

I will investigate this further (before you do anything).

Some things I end up removing from the rom that start up (and I dont use)

I would be interested to see what you come up with on this one (if anything) Dan as I also force close the majority of apps Mark refers to in his post via the "Manage Applications" programme as I don't use them but later see them back up again and in my running list.

I might just have to live with it by the sounds of things though as I am not rooted and can't even contemplate such a scary sounding procedure.

There are apps for non rooted, but essentially they are task killers.

I found an app on xda called autorun killer for root, but it didn't list all my apps.

The only thing I can think is root and remove the apps you don't use.

It shouldn't matter what rom you are on for the removal of apps.

I have heard some reports of getting sim locks on orange so it may be best to create a new thread in the rooting forum requesting advice from people who have rooted from Orange branded desires...
