Help Storage dilemmas

I have a Samsung Galaxy Prevail and for an entry level smart phone, I'm extremely pleased with it. My only problem is that it came with so much crap preinstalled on it (that I don't want, like, or need) that I can only install 4 or 5 apps that I choose. An SD card only helps so much.

My question is, is there any way I can increase my storage abilities WITHOUT rooting? I've been told time and again that I need to root it but from what I've read, there's too much chance in doing this. Isn't there some way I can increase storage capability WITHOUT rooting?

Thanks for any advice.

You could partition your SD card and install an app called link2sd it will help by moveing the bullck of an app to your SD card. Parts of the app will still be in your internal memory. This will explain more

naa...link2sd is a rooted app...truthfully there is a small chance of something going wrong..but only if you dont follow the directions correctly. It is a pretty simple process that will fully unlock the capabilities of your phone..otherwise there isnt much you can do..most apps and other methods of enhancing the phones performance require root...i would encourage you to reconsider rooting because the pros far out weigh any possible cons:D

I think I will root it this weekend. Is there a one-stop, Rooting For Dummies? I'm going to search these forums here and start taking some notes. I looked a few weeks ago and noticed there were different views or preferences on how to do it. I guess it depends on one's tastes.

Good advice, Johnny. I would also recommend installing Titanium Backup. It makes it super easy to remove unwanted apps and to make backup copies of the apps you want. Best of all, you can backup seldom-used apps and then remove them from your phone, knowing there's a backup copy saved on the SD card should you ever need it again.

I have several apps that 'sleep' on my SD card until I need them again. When I do, Titanium Backup 'revives' them and puts them back on the phone.

Thanks again. Some really good info there! Thanks too to you Telecommando. I got some rooting to do (tonight!).

I've read all those posts (first couple pages) on each of those links below. I wasn't aware that the rooting process began from a laptop/desktop until now. I still haven't seen a "beginning to end" step by step process on this but I'm guessing if I follow the steps outlined in the (first link below) I"ll be ok. Going to install that Titanium backup first. Just not entirely sure how / why the process begins on a pc. Guess will figure this out as I progress on the steps outline by those fine gents that posted all of this real useful info. Last question, does anyone know if there's a youtube vid on this process (specifically for the Prevail)?

Thanks again too Johnny, Commando, and other rooting geniuses that allow noobs like me to finally enjoy this cell phone!

NM. I found a good video (exactly what I was looking for) on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLIz7-iFXl8
