Help storage help ??

OK I have my galaxy4s and even tho I have 16GB SD card I'm still have issues with storage .yes I've moved all movable apps to the SD card. But still I see messages saying my device storage is almost full. I look at my storage settings and the Grey area that shows remaining space is almost gone !! So what if I use one of those apps.like Amazon cloud drive
-take all my pictures out of the device and store them on an app. Even Google photo maybe? Will that inturn give me my storage space back ? Thanks in advance to the help and advice [emoji6]

Hi

I suggest you install a small free app called "diskusage" by Ivan Volosyuk from playstore. It will show you graphically what is using your storage up on your internal "sdcard". (Confusing name!) You should then post again here with the results (or post a screen shot)

I enabled Google drive and stored my 2400 pictures on it. So being they're stored I take it that I can clear out my Gallery? Whatcha think ?

As long as they are backed up to Google Drive or whatever cloud service you prefer, you can delete them from your device and access them anytime you want.

Be careful using the Google photos app. I had the same thought and deleted my pictures from the gallery thinking they were safe on the cloud. Turns out that when you delete them from the photos app, it also deletes them from the cloud. Luckily they keep everything in the trash for 30 days so I was able to restore everything, but lesson learned.

I read that the gallery app does not delete from the cloud when you delete the photo from the device so you may want to use that or find another one in the play store.

Maybe I should put them in photobucket.I used it years ago and theyre still there -so I don't think I have 2 worry about losing them there .Your not the first 1 that said that because I seen it in reviews for cloud -I used Google drive... Imagine Google messing up like that .. My niece works for Google. She works in all there corporate offices. If I lose my pictures I'll take it out on her!!! Lol!!

Hi

In the Google photos app, if you select a photo and then press the ... at top right, you have the option to "delete device copy". This leaves the cloud copy alone. If you select and press the trash can it deletes everywhere.

Strange though, it shows your phone as having about 1.8 GB free, so I'm not sot sure why its reporting lack of space..

So that's what the graph says
? 1.8 is almost 2GB right ? How many MB=GB?

1GB = 1000 MB, so its a lot of space.

I suggest you go into
system settings
manage applications
find google playstore and clear the cache for it - that may help.

OK. I no how to Uninstall apps.. I'm surprised at myself because I usually no how to fix most issues with Galaxy series..but when I get stuck on something I'll ask before I make it worse..thanks again .I'm takin 360 out. So what should I use to protect my phone ?.

Did removing 360 Security stop the pop-ups? 360 is notorious for doing that.

I don't use any kind of antivirus, etc.

The biggest security risk to Android is Android users. Be a smart user. Install Common Sense and use it at all times.

Watch the permissions of apps you install. Don't install anything that wants to access anything it has no need to. Like a flashlight app that wants access to your contacts. Only install apps from trustworthy sources, basically the Play store or Amazon.

Do not enable install from unknown sources in Settings > Security. If for some legitimate reason you have to, don't forget to go back and disable it.

I went to settings >manage apps> for some reason the Uninstall option isn't highlighted ? I never seen that b4 on my apps.that I've installed ??

Are you sure you installed 360 Security? If there's no option to uninstall it, it may have come pre-installed on the phone. But you can probably still disable it.
360 Security (Chinese) pre-installed on a Samsung S4? Where did the phone come from, what country, what carrier, was it new or second hand, are we certain it's a real Samsung?

I got it.. I had to deactivate it first as the administrator then after I did that I was able to go to manage apps and the option to Uninstall was highlighted. So it's out . I installed Lookout from the playstore.

Nah. I installed it. Its not preinstalled..I was able to get it out when I went to administer settings..I had to deactivate first than go to manage apps and take it out.

But is Lookout OK. I mean what's the difference. .and that apple iPhone 7 thing was so annoying yesterday ..So far it hasn't been back since I did what u guys said. So thanks again !!☺☺

Lookout should be alright as far as it shouldn't throw up nag ads like 360 Security. But you don't need it and it's not likely to protect you against any threats. Just do as I suggested in post #16 and you'll be ok. You are the most effective protection.
