Storage Question - Apps and Other

Hello,

I'm not able to install or update any apps due to storage issues. I do have plenty of free space and have a 32G card on the way.

It looks like I need to figure out what days is stored on "other" below. Can someone assist? Any other suggestions?

Cheers!
Doug

Cant you tap on Other to get a breakdown? In my case the Other or Misc' is usually files ive downloaded so check the Downloads folder.
If youre rooted and use custom roms you could have a lot of .zip files or backups lying around
EDIT sorry i was reading your pic wrong.
Maybe its app or game data saved in .obb (i think?) Files?

I use a handy app called Disk Usage to get a better idea of exactly where my storage is being used.

Keep in mind that a larger SD card won't generally give you any extra application storage, which usually has to reside on internal memory.

Thanks for the App recommendation. I think I'm fine with App storage as long as I can figure out what this other stuff is. Could it be SMS/MMS?

once in a while i like to move my titanium file (im guessin youre rooted) and anything else i want to keep to the sd card and do a full factory reset from within the phone settings to clear out all the crap. it usually frees a lot of space :)

I think I may have figured it out. Let me ask you this. When I'm browsing my phone from my PC, I have "internal storage" and "sd storage". I noticed that I have pictures saving to the internal storage, even though the rule I have setup is to save to SD. So my question is, is the internal storage part of the SD card? I had assumed it was actual phone storage and not SD.

"Internal storage" should refer to the phone's built-in, non-removable storage.

The catch is that, since SD cards aren't really directly supported by the Android OS anymore, different manufacturers have different ways of addressing them, and some apps can easily get confused when trying to put names on the various storage partitions.

What device are you using?

These pictures display my confusion I think.

HTC EVO LTE.

I confirmed that the internal storage is my phone's built in storage. I moved a lot of pictures to my computer and the phone storage displayed on the phone decreased dramatically.

I just posted some pics from tapatalk. The second pic shows my downloaded apps with about 500 MB free.

Thanks for your help. Been trying to get this resolved for a while.

That's a good idea. Thanks!

Yeah, I understand even less after looking at those two screenshots lol.

I'd give that Disk Usage app a go - it gives a nice graphical representation so you can see exactly what is using up your storage, and you can even delete entire folders from the app in case it's something you know you don't need (old downloaded .apks, for instance).

That app would tell you ;)

I think what we have here is a failure to communicate! :D

I'm glad the OP solve the issue, and that the thread could bring a smile to my face. I needed that today.

Disk Usage weighs in at a hefty 155KB. I'm not sure that the OS can even function without that much space to spare, hence the reason I continued to make that recommendation ;) Without knowing where the storage is actually being used, it can be very difficult to resolve.

My point was the conversation was:

OP: I cannot install apps.

You: Try this app.

OP: Thank you for the app suggestion. Do you think . . .

You: The app would tell you.

The problem is, he couldn't install apps. That's what I found funny.
