Looking to use straight talk with this phone and was wondering if users of straight talk would recommend it? Also which chip would you say is better the T-mobile or ATT? Thanks a lot i really appreciate it.
 
I've been kicking around the idea myself. As far as which is better, that will most likely depend on where you live. There are probably coverage maps you can refer to.

AT&T likely will have more consistent coverage but T-Mo side will likely have faster data.

I'd recommend if you are not a super heavy data user.
 
This is the debate I've been having myself lately. My opinion is that if you're going to go straight talk, go ATT, otherwise you're better off getting the tmo chip from tmobile using their $30/mo. unl. data/text plan and using google voice for your calls.

My other concern is straight talks data. I have heard it is not really unlimited data. I could not get a real answer from the lady i spoke to the other day at walmarts wireless zone (though I don't know why I expected them to have actually trained their employees to be knowledgable about phones and plans). I use a decent amount of data per month, probably 5-10gb/mo.

ATT gets better service where I live (tmo is still rocking edge in my town) but straight talks data caps suck.

I would also have a look at Simple Mobile. This $50 plan looks very enticing...

I've been researching these plans a lot since the Nexus 4 announcement. Simple Mobile micro sim cards can be purchase from Amazon for $ .39 as well. I don't work for the company but they seem to be the best deal I've found so far.

Straight Talk:
- $45 a month
- Unlimited talk and text
- Prepaid
- 2GB data cap

T-Mobile Monthly 4G
- $30 a month
- Prepaid
- Unlimited text
- 100 minutes a month (workaround: wifi calling)
- 5GB data cap

AT&T:
- If you can afford AT&T you shouldn't be debating between these options. With contract ~$100 a month. Without contract, still ridiculous pricing.

Simple Mobile:
- Unlimited talk, text and data for $50 a month
- Possible throttle after unknown data limit (not sure, just looked into Simple Mobile briefly)
- Runs off T-Mobile network

Personally I'm going T-Mobile, but to each their own. There is no right choice, it's what's right for you.

Generally AT&T has better coverage and T-Mobile has faster speeds. This is overall though. Obviously it depends on the area. Try to find people who live near you with T-Mobile and AT&T and see what kind of service they get.
 
Well my issue is, I'm moving out of my parents house and up to Ithaca shortly. Just about every carrier has a strong service presence up in Ithaca, especially t mobile, but I will occasionally travel back home once and awhile, and I rely on Google maps to get home, but its so rural and mountainous on the way there and even on Verizon there are some serious dead spots while traveling. I need to figure what carrier will get me home, I dont want to spend a $100+ on a GPS
 
T Mobile's wifi calling is a way to make calls when you have wifi and a poor cellular reception. It's not some kind of gift of free minutes.

I don't think it's available on their prepaid. Re voip: I get good call quality but bad lag using Groove IP. I can't recommend it, whatever that's worth... :D
 
I was thinking along the lines of Skype or other means. I haven't looked into it much, but i've been assured of the possibility of placing calls through wifi on my phone w/o using T-Mobile's minutes.

Yes you can even use your data (3g connection) to make your voice calls. So you don't always need to be near a WiFi connection. Of course the call quality won't be the same as with the standard T-mobile mins.
 
I switched over to Straight Talk(ATT) back in May and I have been super happy ever since. Maybe a couple hiccups here and there with APN settings not letting me get MMS but otherwise no issues. I highly recommend changing over to them even if its just to try it for a month and see what you think. Worst case scenario you can always go back to your carrier(they call it a win-back) if you find it doesnt work like it should in your area.

I also love bragging that I only pay $45/month for my service while most others cringe that they are paying over $100.
 
I have been using straighttalk with my GNex for the past 8 months. I have used the service on both att and tmobile. tmobile is absolutely faster and att does have a little better coverage. I would suggest to start with tmobile and if the coverage isn't great just order an att sim and switch.

As for the tmobile $30 plan - I had issues with that one because you only get 100 minutes. Using Groove IP works sometimes but is not very dependable. For the additional $15 a month it's worth it to just use straight talk. But if you never talk and use more date the $30 Tmobile plan is the way to go...

Either way if you buy this phone go w a prepaid plan and save yourself some major money.
 
you cant use the T-mobile version of straight talk on the nexus 4 UNLESS you cut the t-mobile sim card. Straight Talk does not offer a micro-sim version of T-mobile, on AT&T. You can however cut the Straight Talk T-mobile sim, but i would not do it. lol
I ordered an AT&T micro-sim card and got it with free shipping. For $42.50 a month (I work for Wal-Mart) you cannot beat the price. :)

Cant wait to try it out on my new Nexus 4 that should be here Monday :)
 
I used Straight Talk Tmo sim and at was great expect for one thing:

You cannot use Google Voice with a ST TMO sim. T-mobile Prepaid service doesn't support conditional call forwarding, which GV needs to send calls to your voicemail. So if you have a cell number that forwards calls to your GV number for voicemail, it won't work.

If you use your GV number as your main number, port it to Straight Talk and disable carrier voicemail, you should be ok by using the app.

If you're a GV user like I am, I'd check out the T-mobile Monthly 4G plans and see if they support GV. That's what I plan on doing once I get my N4 (recently lost my Sensation).
 
Guys use Solavei 2x the 4g data and its tmobiles network for the nexus 4 you need Tmobile for HSPA+ I also have an IMEI available if you need one to get your solavei card on order. All I ask is you consider adding me as your sponsor when you sign up . PM me for the information.
 
So how's the setup process for straight talk? I read an article about straight talk, and the writer went through a first time setup with a new sim card, He said he had to download a few files and install some sort of APK, then to you use Voicemail, you had to disable something in the settings. :confused:
