Help Strange battery performance

Happyyl

As reported by many LG OP S users, the battery life is a big problem. In the first few days when I had the phone (Dec. 2010), I had the same problem. A full overnight charge only lasts to noon the next day with very limited uses. I did as suggested by some users, turning off wifi, bluetooth, GPS, syc and any non-essential apps, installed task killer and used it as frequently as I can. For a while, one full charge can even last for 2 days and I was happy about it.

But in the recent days (I do not remember I changed anything), the battery problem suddenly took a sharp turn. A full charge can not even last up to noon. The phone became hot when the battery drains fast. I bought a spare wall charge for my office. If I charge it with phone on, the indicator shows that % of charge goes down instead up. I have to turn the phone off to charge the phone. It frustrates me.

I read that there might be some type of bugs going on. Is this true? If it is, LG or Andriod should work on this.

Most folks report the battery life with the optimus S is very good for a smartphone (i.e. able to make it thru a full day with medium to heavy use). I'm typically at 50% or more battery life after a 16 hour day of light to medium usage.

There are two situations I've heard of people having battery life issues with the Optimus S...
The first is an application that is a battery hog. There are ways to track this down. Check out the following thread:

The second is if you spend a lot of time in a low signal area your battery life will drop to nothing in a matter of hours. The latest VC/VD updates supposedly helped improve this but I haven't had a chance to test this out yet.

btw... most folks in the know do not recommend using task killers (at least in auto-kill mode) as most of the tasks will auto-restart after being killed and use more battery life then if the task is left in the background. Android 2.2 tends to be very good at managing background apps.

Thanks. I have uninstalled task killer and disabled many apps. The signal level in my office is not too bad either. Question is why it just took this sharp turn in the last few days.

I have put it on charger 4 hours ago. The battery level grown from 20% to 40%. The phone is warm.

i keep my backlight at 5% while im away from a charger , also any animation will drain also my wallpaper was using 40% of the battery

Confirmed. I went from having anywhere from 60-90% no service to 5% with the VD update.

My battery life is much better since VD ... but oh wait...maybe that's because I can't use my hotspot anymore. grrrrr. :p
