what is this button and why did they have to put it next to the space bar. I know that it changes the language but why would you want to do that. anyways is there a way to replace it with maybe the @ sign

Yeah that is a common complaint with the Swype keyboard. I don't know of anyway of changing it other than downloading a different keyboard. If you love to swype though then you can try the beta version of Swype that removes that language button. However, I find the beta version to be extremely buggy for me but you can try it here: Swype Beta

Hey, if you want you can just download the new 4.2 keyboard for its swipe function and lose the language button for kicks.

STORY OF MY LIFE. I cannot stand that language button. I just installed the 4.2 swype keyword and lets see if its buggy.
If the only language you use on Swype is English just press/hold the bottom left button, go to Languages and disable all languages except English, that way it will still be there but it wont do anything if you press it.
Or you can download the Swype beta, or that other 4.2 keyboard someone posted up that you can swype on it also.

Ha ha! I had no idea you could do that! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I always end up pressing that stupid button, now that it does nothing it is much better. Wish it would disappear all together but much improved.
