Help Strange marks in battery compartment

Hi,

Strange, random question, but does anyone else have some hairline marks running down the battery compartment, under the battery?

Just noticed them, swear they weren't there before but the battery seems to have no points sharp enough.

Just curious :-)
 
Not that I've noticed. It would depend on how large they are because I have cataracts, and even with glasses if they're really as narrow as a hair I'd never see them unless I shined a light at the right angle to cause shadows.

It's one of those strange things that I'm sure I would have noticed at the beginning, but can't work out how I would have done it myself, and it's just bugging me (slightly).
I even tried moving the battery around to see if more appeared, but nothing.
My main suspicion was the pressure from a wireless charging receiver I'd put in there had caused it.
Theres a few marks leading to the terminals, not sure if this is part of the manufacturing or testing process, and one thin line thats very straight, above the sticker.
 
I've got a scratch just above the little Samsung logo on the label and one just above the copper circle under the angle drawn below the label. I use the stock battery and like you cannot begin to figure out where they came from although I have a felling they may have been there since I bought it but I just never noticed them until you brought it up Paul7876. The marks aren't on the back cover they're in the battery tray itself.
 
The hairline scratch may have been there before you inserted the battery for the first time. I just got mine today and noticed it right away- funny I should see this post afterwards.
 
I have it too, but I would've never noticed it if you hadn't brought it up, lol, I switch my battery out everyday and never look that closely.
 
Thanks for the replies. I was surprised I hadn't noticed this before, especially as I have a really annoying habit of spotting the smallest marks, and I honestly don't go looking for them.
I was concerned my wireless charging receiver could have somehow pushed the battery in too hard, but then I realised that was daft :-)
At least we know we're not the only ones, sorry to those who hadn't noticed it before but now have
 
Injection molding is the process used along with a release agent, to manufacture smartphone housings. It's the release agent that leaves these very fine lines that could be mistaken for cracks. They're most noticeable under the battery because it's a large flat surface.

The good news, is that there's nothing to be concerned with. Especially since Samsung uses a very high quality, strong and durable material. Frankly I prefer plastic over aluminum because it's not subject to denting, or being scratched so easily.

Nothing against aluminum, it makes a great beer can :)
 
Would that also cover dark streaks that look like scrapes? It's hard to describe and only shows the certain angles but I was able to replicate it on an old phone by pushing the edge of the battery down hard and moving it around but on the edges only from the battery corners.
On my Note 3, they're about a quarter of the way across the battery compartment, so the corner couldn't have done it, and I've never pushed the battery in hard.

Yes, it's complicated, but to put it in layman's terms there's a hard skin on the surfaces than can be marked cosmetically by being scrapped by the edge of a battery if changed out frequently.

All's normal, no worries. Hope this helps

You're 100% correct, they come from the factory with these marks (some more than others). So while more can be created from scuffing, you will see them in random areas throughout the interior surfaces of the phone.
