Help Strange Screen Effect in Browser

jikhead

Android Expert
When I'm using the Chrome browser and scrolling the page(s), the phone quite often thinks that I'm attempting to resize and/or select something. It then does a slight zoom in effect, and you can see a light blue border around the screen (as if I'm selecting something). When it does this (again quite often), I can't tell the phone to stop it nor can I negate the effect. I have only been able to get out of the effect by simply closing the browser. I'll try to get a screen shot later.

Any ideas or thoughts? Anyone else experiencing this in the Chrome browser?

When I scroll to the bottom and reach the end, it lights up blue, indicating I am at the bottom and can't go any further. That's the only thing I get that is blue.

OK, I got some good screenshot examples of the problem.

If you view my screenshots in order, this is what happened.

First screenshot: I'm simply scrolling down the webpage and at some point, it thinks I wanted to zoom in on the page; which I didn't. I was simply scrolling/swiping down the page with my finger. You can see the blue border around the screen.

Second screenshot: I was able to zoom out once with pinch-to-zoom; but you tell it didn't/won't go out to the normal resolution of the page. It left aligns the info/text like crazy, and you can still see the blue border. It's acting as if I want to copy or something like that? Don't know.

Third screenshot: I clicked on a link on that page, which took me to a single article page. (Note, that this whole issue is not specific to any one website. It occurs on nearly any/all websites.) It's still in the same effect problem as in #2; you still have the blue border. Notice that the address/URL bar and my notification bar is zoomed in like crazy. You can't scroll left or right to even see the entire notification bar.

Fourth screenshot: pressing the 3-dash bar/settings/options button that is on the home button bar brings up the settings and other browser options. This too is zoomed in/magnified for some reason too. And the blue bar is still around the screen.

I can't get it to stop unless I simply close the browser app.

I don't use Chrome but with Dolphin I only see a blue illumination when scrolled to the bottom of a screen.

Have you tried a different browser?

No but I realize that is always an option. If this is a specific issue that is repetitive on multiple devices, I'd like to see it get noted as a bug and get fixed. I like using Chrome because I can sync all my bookmarks and history across all of my devices.

I had a real rough go with Chrome on the g2. Pinch to zoom felt very rough, almost choppy. It was unusable for me. Not sure what your deal is, I never saw that but I will add I've started using Firefox and it's working great. It also has an option to sync all devices which is handy as it's my browser of choice on the PC as well.

I found out on Monday that this problem of mine was also doing it outside of Chrome and on the home screen(s). I took screenshots but I've since hard reset my phone per LG request and forgot to upload those images. I'm waiting to see if it occurs after resetting the phone; it did fix my Gmail notifications problem.

I haven't seen this problem inside of Chrome since resetting my phone on Monday; but I have seen it continue outside of it (and in the OS). I added a new screenshot and you can see that when I was trying to select a home screen app to move to a folder, it did something else and zoomed in again with the blue border around the screen.

Well LG is telling me that I need to ship my phone back to them so that they can reload the OS on the phone in order to fix this problem. Since I'm rooted, I guess I will just have to deal with it until the bootloader is unlocked and we get some ROMs.

Man that is strange. I still haven't seen another phone do that yet. Anyway, you could always flash the stock image. I've done that and then re-rooted. Might solve your issue I guess but stock software shouldn't vary. Guess it's possible you have a hardware anomaly with the screen? If so, may need a replacement. I wouldn't put up with that for the next year or more although you're right about roms. Already have a couple and more in route I'm sure (hope). :)

Funny that the say that because as I was sitting in bed last night and trying to scroll thru YouTube, I started wondering if it is a hardware problem. Because it's difficult to scroll thru things such as YT, web, etc. because the touchscreen seems over-sensitive to everything. It constantly thinks I'm selecting something when I scroll, when I am not.

Maybe I should unroot it and return it for a new one? By the way, are there instructions on how to unroot the phone and will VZ or LG be able to tell?

I recommend THESE instructs. I used that thread and it worked very well and was easy. If it still has the issue after a reflash to stock, yeah I'd return it and no, they cannot tell. Reflashing stock resets the root flag. Don't forget that it'll also wipe the /sdcard partition unlike a rom flash which preserves that location. So back it up any files you want to keep beforehand.

I'm gonna try reflashing this weekend but I managed to get another screenshot of it doing some weird shit today.

I was trying to order a case online from Amazon. I selected a drop down so I could change the shipping address...then bam. It did something weird. The browser is zoomed in but the keyboard seems to still have it's size. But then that blue border is overlaying on top of my keyboard.

Instructions were pretty straight forward; thanks. Now lets see if this weird problem continues or not.

Well the reflash of the OS didn't work. It doesn't seem as bad because when I'm scrolling a webpage, I can see that it's almost about to do it before the phone seems to realize that I'm scrolling and not selecting. However, it continues nonetheless. Even when I tried to upload a screenshot to my SkyDrive app, selected the share button and tried to scroll down the list of available apps and even that zoomed in on me...something that shouldn't even have the ability to zoom. I'm taking it back tomorrow to see if I can get a new replacement.

I got my replacement phone in today plus my Diztronic case. Lets so how this goes; I'll update over the weekend.
