Stratosphere Release

That's the chart that created this forum a few days ago. Thanks to that we still have Verizon SGS2 forum here! Entire Function forum got deleted this morning.

On your topic, did you notice that chart starts from September? Plus Samsung mobile CEO said SGS2 will be released to US in August and Fascinate just got retired from verizon stores. So putting this together, I think there is still slight chance of SGS2 dropping here by the end of August. I know it's very slim chance though given no clue from medias yet.

Even if it drops in September, he could be right... technically.

Samsung may very well release it this month: to the PROVIDERS. It is then at their discretion when to make it available for us at retail... and Verizon has chosen to hold it until September so they could (quietly) put it up against the Bionic... which, according to the chart, is slated for a "Level One Launch".

What's a level one launch? I BELIEVE it's a launch that involves a media blitz, lots of signage, arrows in the store pointing to the Bionic and reps saying "You gotta buy this phone!" I intend to find out what it means.

If so, it'll prove my theory that Motorola is Verizon's preferred OEM for 2 reasons: (a) making them billions with the whole Droid franchise; and (b) encrypting their bootloaders (which Verizon loves).

I think they already got test samples for at least month. Remember those twitter leaks on it having 4G and quickly retracted just a few weeks back? Also another one on twitter mentioned Fascinate 2 being not ready for launch yet. I guess some of them leaked those info by mistake and took it back quickly to keep their quiet stance on it.

I think that the speculation it was coming to Verizon in August was based on that one report quoting an "insider" in California. The "insider" wasn't even sure about the date.

Yes, Samsung said it was coming to the US in August, but was that confirmed as being Verizon?

I do think that it will release on September 8 along with the Bionic. I hope so. It will be a hard decision to make, in a very good way.

I'm planning on sitting put for at least 2 weeks to see what the reviews and forum posts are like.

If both device indeed comes out on the same day (which is rare for Verizon), obviously they will be reviewed against each other by medias. I'm sure that edge on display, camera, form factor will go to Sammy, but I will be curious on battery, data speed, overall performance (web, video, games, etc).

Verizon Wireless year-end roadmap leaks, Android and LTE spotted on the horizon? -- Engadget

Year End Roadmap for VZ Wireless shows Sept. 8th. VZ has played games trying to compete with the new iPaid release... now I'm likely to keep my money in my pocket a little longer and just hold off for the Holiday release blitz.

You and me both. This "last to market" schtick played time and again in the US is getting tiresome. The SGSII hit the UK at the end of April. It's August and we're still waiting with no confirmed release date? Now HD resolution is right around the corner. The Fall will go by fast. I'll take my chances waiting to see if the Nexus Prime hits Verizon around the Christmas holiday.

I'm not holding my breath on ANYTHING "Nexus" coming to Verizon. Not much of a track record to go by. As much as I'd love it, I just don't see the Prime happening on their network. :(

SGSII first hit Korea on late April and then UK on early May to be exact. Then it hit the rest of world sequentially. I think they are trying to release it on multiple US carriers around the same time and that's part of delay as well as implementing LTE for Verizon. The fact that it's still holding better performance over other phones three months after its first release is pretty impressive. I just hope US models are worth the wait when it finally drop here.

I'm a little skeptical that verizon would get Nexus Prime. If that leaked map list is to be believed, maybe they are getting Plato with same spec and their bloatwares.

I agree and not to mention since it says they both will be lte it could really hurt sales for the droid bionic and i dont see verizon doing that to their droid line. Then again since it says level 1 launch maybe they will do preorders for the bionic and then the stratosphere will only be available in store on the 8. That way it could help the bionic sales somewhat. But until we know what the stratosphere is nobody knows for sure. I think they are due for an lte slider and the one leaked awhile back could be perfect to go with the bionic since it was said not to be dual core and not have the specs the bionic has. Maybe they will upgrade the specs a little on the slider? We need some more info, guess we will find out in the upcoming weeks.

So are there going to be any more "priority" 3G phones? I was counting on the SGII for a great phone with global compatibility, also since 4G isn't remotely near me. If it's really turned into the stratosphere, I doubt whether it'll have the SIM slot...

Since it is said to be 4g I doubt it will also be global.

If it matters to anyone at all:

I have been routinely searching the Verizon website for indications of this phone, and something has happened...

I logged in, went to "shop smartphones" and then put "stratosphere" in the search window. Normally it has always come up with "No results found".

Today, it's a blank Verizon page!

Verizon Wireless Search Results

This tells me that the web page is set up but unpopulated! This thing HAS to be getting close! It's hard to imagine me getting stoked over a blank web page, but I'm starting to get excited here!

Finally some good news! Hopefully it will happen soon!

Where is the search feature that is just for searching the phones, and not the one that's on the top of every page to search the whole site?

Because using that search, or clicking your link, I get the same thing if I search "donkey." ....

Right. And "Space Crap", too.

But didn't you hear? At CES in January, Verizon announced the upcoming HTC Donkey and Samsung Space Crap for Q1 2012. I guess they're moving faster on it than we thought!

Well, spit.

Thanks for ruining my adulthood! :p

I thought I was on to something... turns out I was grasping at straws. Not the first time, won't be the last

So now, we're back to waiting on what has to be the best-kept secret in the Android world...

Sorry Chief. I hate contributing to the destruction of someone's adulthood. But it's better than ruining someone's childhood, right? :p
