Help Streaming Audio Problem--Please Help (Issue Resolved Post #32)

Not sure what you're asking, but I'll guess :)

If you mean how am I getting my scanner online, I'm using ScannerCast (RadioReference-specific edition). If you mean how do I listen, I generally just use the web player at my desktop PC and, well, I haven't found anything that will stream it cleanly on my MoPho. Since the leaked update didn't fix this (I didn't expect it to), my MoPho will go back at the end of its 30 days if a solution isn't found :(

I did post this at XDA today... fingers crossed.

Well I thought you said you had a personal scanner and you were broadcasting or streaming it out through that program for your local area. I have a little theory but it's probably bunk. You might try calling someone and have them put there phone up next to a loud radio, place the phone on speaker phone and see if you can mimic the skipping that you hear with the scanner and weather radio. I almost wonder if it's something to do with the output volume the stream is coming in at and there is something internal trying to "dampen" it and that's causing the issues.

Oh, I see... Actually, the scanner is silent here in the office. It's connected to my rear audio via line-in and can only be heard via streaming, even at my own PC, unless I turn the volume up (in which case it's about 30sec. ahead of what's being streamed).

No replies at XDA yet.

When using Scanner Radio, I notice that the volume starts fluctuating wildly. That's why I wonder if might be something with the audio output of the scanner it self. Since the frequency that is used is very treble heavy to begin with it makes you wonder if it's something internally is trying to turn it down and while it seems your getting skips what it actually is is just the volume going up and down.....now again this is just a theory and I'm probably forgetting some basic thing that makes my theory totally void. Something though makes me think it has something to do with the output of the stream.

Anywho I did research the MLB issue and they said that switching from Shoutcast to "alternate audio" did the trick. So if the alternate audio is simply a different stream then it's def. an issue with how bot the weather radio and the scanner streams their audio and there is probably nothing you can do until Moto comes out with a fix.

I do believe I'm "hot on the trail" of this problem... From ScannerCast's configuration and usage page:

"Playback Using RealPlayer Results In Periodic Noise

If you play back a stream created by ScannerCast using any version of RealPlayer, the resulting audio will contain periodic pops, clicks, screeches, and noise. This happens whether you directly listen to a ScannerCast stream, or you listen to a stream created by ScannerCast that's being relayed through a SHOUTcast/Icecast server.
This problem occurs because RealPlayer incorrectly handles the SHOUTcast metadata interval parameter, causing it to attempt to decode the metadata as MP3 audio data. This bug was first reported to the RealPlayer developers in 2005, and applies to any SHOUTcast or Icecast stream that doesn't use the default metadata interval of 16K. Real Networks (the for-profit company that owns RealPlayer) hasn't fixed the bug in all these years, and my attempts to report this problem to the RealPlayer developers, or at least hear their side of the story, received no reply.
While ScannerCast could be changed to use the default metadata interval, that would seriously degrade tag/audio synchronization. I have no plans to change the way ScannerCast works to make it work with a third-rate, broken, media player."

Sound familiar??? ;)

This would def. make sense, when researching the problem I also saw that the MLB issue was because of Shoutcast and you could switch to "alternate audio" on a moto phone and that fixed it. I looked in the scanner app and saw no such option, so perhaps that is an option on the android that he could add. I also saw some posts on other boards and blogs about how to increase the cache size of streams but it involved actually changing some strings in the program language.

SOLVED:

Apparently, Motorola phones don't like 16kbps mono audio streams. I set up alternative broadcasting software and changed my feed to 32kbps stereo, and the feed plays well with the in-app (Scanner Radio) player--not so well with the Android player. The feed is now listenable, and I hope this helps people (even if they hadn't experienced the problem--yet...).

Hey I was looking on my Internet Radio on my photon and then I tried to listen to the radio and it said that there are no station can someone help

Ha, I tried using TuneIn Radio (which I always used in the past) the other day and the saved stations I had were no longer available! I could only listen to crappy local radio. Guess I'll have to find another app? Thoughts?

My wife told me yesterday Amazon Cloud Player was locking up her Photon.

Hey - I can confirm that the Amazon Cloud Player definitely does not work correctly on the Photon 4G. I uploaded like 40 gigs of music to use via streaming and it is very fickle. It will sometimes work for three or four songs, then totally freeze, freezes the phone, and requires a battery pull to reset :(.

I hope this gets fixed soon. It is basically a worthless app at this point :(.

I would highly recommend Jango Radio. It's very similar to Pandora but with unlimited skips, very few repeats & no ads. I find the variety of music to be much better than Pandora.

Everything worked fine until last week; now I can stream Scanner Radio or Live ATC, but can stream Youtube, and pandora on both wifi, and on Cspire network.
