Hmm is it possible to stream videos to my Galaxy Prevail from my Home PC via home network or via internet when I am out and about? It would help to know that way I can do the same on my amazon kindle once I get it. I know of a few software products I can use on my home pc to stream over both the network and internet. But as of right now I dont know of any apps to let me pick those streams up on my android phone. So thats why I am asking here for help.

yes there is a way... & there is a app that is out that does this, which i currently downloaded off this website but its no longer on here...

some admins removed the app & posts...

unfortunately i wont be able to post how to also, or what app does it, due to me reading thru the forum & admins banning people for doing what your asking for....

I do not wish to get banned since im a new member to the site.....

There is a app called VLC direct which allows u to stream your movies from pc to phone but it doesn't work on outside networks.... if home u can stream all u want...

I am sure there are other apps out there that can do what I am askimg. I can run software like tversity or ps3 media server on my pc but I need an app on my phone to access that. I am posative yalking about this is fine. As I am asking about streaming videos I madeyself from my pc to my phone over both my home network and the internet. So if a mod or admin would chim in and let us know if thats fine ti talk about. Its possible the app you are talking about got banned from here because they were linking to a paid app you didnt have to pay for.

na, no paid apps, on the app NYCPIFF was talking about... just some hater admins i guess.... lol... it happens... the admins banned that user, stating the reason for ban: streaming of movies.

but theres many softwares for android that can stream movies to your phone... VLC direct, Gmote, Winamp's Winamp Remote, AndrOrb, UpNplay.

i used TVersity before... Been a while though.. but TVersity has a web based library access option, so i dont c why u cant stream with that.

Looks like the newest tversity can stream to android 3.0 only. Currently running vlc direct but I will also take a look at those others you listed. Thanks for the heads up on them. Streaming videos will be a good thing so I dont have to keep them on my phone or tablet when I get one. So that makes the size of the kindle fire mute if I can stream videos from my pc. Will be keeping my phone for music but I will regilate everything else to the tablet. I dont use the camera on my phone since I have a real camera that shoots pics and videos in 720p. Streaming videos from your pc is fine but they may have issues if the dude was streaming movies from a online site. I can understand why that would be agaisnt the rules and considered warez.

cool, lemme know how it goes on with the apps i mentioned...

Hmm seems the best app I found for what I want to do is the vlc app which isnt an issue. It works well on my phone.

yea its what i use & seems to run fine & stable for the android... sorry the others didn't work out.. i was just going off the head with the ones i remembered...

if i find anyone's that stream better than VLC, ill def update it here..

Heres Some More U Can Look Into: Some are for music only, some allow both...

Subsonic - app for streaming music, it supports streaming, downloading, playlists, album art and searching.

Emit -

Watch videos live from your PC/Mac/Linux on android. Download music from iTunes.
Emit allows you to stream videos from PC/Mac/Linux directly to an android device from your local WiFi, 3G or external WiFi. Features:

  • Live encoding and streaming directly to your device.
  • HTTP Live streaming for 2.3+ devices
  • .srt and .mkv subtitles are supported
  • Videos can be download to the device for offline viewing

Audiogalaxy - stream your music from your home computer to your phone from anywhere using 3G, EDGE, or WiFi without having to copy the media files to your phone.

SugarSync - Apart from just syncing files. you can also easily stream music/videos with it.

Tonido - you can do more than just stream music, like browse files, documents (Word, Excel, PDF etc.) and view it in your phone and its free too.

DoubeTwist AirSync

DoubleTwist AirSync wirelessly syncs your
iTunes music, photos and videos with your Mac or PC over your home WiFi network. It has to be used in conjunction with the DoubleTwist desktop app to automatically import your iTunes music playlists, iTunes ratings & play-counts from your Mac or PC.

  • Automatically import MP3 purchases & downloads from your phone back to your Mac or PC.
  • Stream photos, videos and music from your phone to your XBox or PlayStation 3 with AirTwist™
  • Stream videos, photos and music to your Apple TV (black model) with Twist To™ (AirPort Express is not yet supported)

I haven't used (or I don't know 2 much about every one) most of these... But I’d like to hear your comment on this list – If you think I missed any app or wanna add to it.. or you liked it or had any problem with anything... would help the following user...

Emit seems like a nice app but I cant get the app on my pc to behave correctly. The pc app keeps becoming unresponsive so its causing errors when it tries to stream to the mobile app. If I could get this to run correctly that would be great as I can stream both over the network and over the internet by using a pin the pc app gives me to connect to the web server. It also seems the easiest so far to get working but with the issues I can not use it. I sent an email to the emit team hopefully I get some sort of reply from them about this. I will take a look at the rest of those sooner or later as well.

Sugarsync is not int he market for our phone if its even in the market that is. So I cant test that one out.

Double twist looks like its reliant on apple so I will be staying away from it

im curious on what operating system your running on. only asking so i can know more or less what can be used...

also have your tried creating your own webserver for this? i noticed u said emit used a webserver... is it possible to connect the emit app to your own webserver...

i know for windows u can use IIS to create a webserver, which is built in to windows systems like xp, vista, & windows 7..
or u can use Xampp for windows if IIS is to complicated to setup, it also create a linux lamp webserver, thats already setup for you on windows with minor edits by the user..

then u just need a app that will allow the connection between web server & app to allow the streaming to the app.... i believe the VLC direct app can connect to a webserver for this... Not sure about emit & how it works..

I am running windows 7 32bit on an Intel pentium E2180 at 2ghz with 3 gigs of ram and a nvidia geforce gts250. I am aware I have a weak cpu and that its my main bottle neck when ever I try to do anything major with my pc. Cant do any new games becuase of it. It may also be whats causing emit not to work so well but There arent any system requirements listed on the site for the program so I have no idea there. Tried to get ahold of the emit people but no luck there.

to be honest with u, your pc specs can run it its own websever. i have one running on a old dell 2400, its a 2.4ghz celeron processor, 512mb ram, & integrated video card, running a fms4 media & webserver, also have a ftp server & radio stream running 24/7 on it.

u need good bandwidth to stream.
i have a 35/35mbps connection running it which is decent for just streaming to myself & a few others.

but def google it. u will find something.
