Root Stuck at HTC screen

jreuter21

Newbie
I just tried to switch ROMs. Im pretty sure I did it right. I followed the exact same directions I did on the first one I did and everything seemed to go smooth. When I got done I rebooted and now its been stuck on the white HTC screen for ever. Any idea what this means or how to fix it?

Have you gone back to recovery, wiped all the data, and reflashed the rom. Which rom are. You trying to flash? Do you need an sd card partition to run it? Being stuck on the HTC screen can mean a number of things, just need a bit of background info. Did you do a nandroid before you flashed?

It would help if we knew what exact directions you're talking about, what Rom you cane from and what Rom you attempted to flash

I was running oxygen. I tried to go to MildWild based on CyanogenMod7 that is in the sticky.

Here is the directions I used when I went to oxygen so I just did the exact same thing....(except with the mildwild instead of oxygen obviously)

take the oxygen rom put it on phone sd card
shut off phone.
hold vol down and power
vol down til u get over recovery
press power once
itll say HTC
wait...
itll start to load the recovery program...
press backup\restore
press backup
press check
itll start to calculate
and now backup
(Btw im doing this at the same exact time im writing it, just for better details)
press check mark again
press back arrow
now do wipe|format on main screen
do wipe data/factory reset
checkmark
check again
wipe cache
check mark
wipe dalvik cache
check mark
format system
check mark
press back button
install from sdcard
choose zip from sdcard
press update-oxygen-2.3.2-BravoC-signed.zip
check mark
wait...
check again
back button
back button
reboot now
checkmark
*if reboot doesn't happen* take out battery and put back in then press power*
DONE!

So I did all this. It seemed to be working just like last time. Yes I did the nandroid backup and as far as I can tell I wiped everything. Its still on the HTC screen though. I was hoping it could sleep it off but wasnt so lucky lol

I can't do too much digging for you as I'm out and about.. However some roms require an ext4 partition on the sd card (usually 1 gig) to install and run them. Have you done this? Also, when I installed Mildwild 3.7 I was recommended to change the Hboot appropriately accommodate the rom.. Although if you are using the stock Hboot I wouldn't envisage it being a problem (correct me if I'm wrong folks). It may be worth your while finding the corresponding thread on the xda forums and making you have all the prerequisite requirements.

I partitioned the sd card when I rooted and I am S-OFF if thats what you are asking? Im sorry Im still kind of new at this. Thought I could figure it out on my own but obviously still dont have it down. I am using a CDMA desire btw (idk if that matters) But last night those are the exact steps I took (using ext4)

I dont think Mildwild used the CDMA version of CyanogenMod 7 for any releases. I believe MW is GSM only. As are most roms.

Just restore the nandroid you did for oxygen. On xda in the "everything desire is here" sticky in desire > android dev forum think the CDMA Roms are near bottom of first post. All other Roms are GSM.

Are you also S-OFF - if you are, whatever you do do not try and fastboot AlphaRev table, this will brick your CDMA desire.

Restore your nandroid and the phone should work again (into recovery -> backup & restore and select restore).

Don't really know CDMA ROM's, but the XDA post listing ROMs has a section for these, and you can find that linked in the All Things Root Guide sticky post.

So to restore it do I do that list of stuff I Posted above? Sorry like I said I'm new at this. Do I wipe everything? Do I just select the oxygen zip at the end or do I do something different to restore it?

OK, so i restored the oxygen ROM and it worked thank god. I know many of you arent CDMA users but I really would like to try a different ROM. Dont really like this one. Idk if my phone is just junk or the ROM is glitchy but I dont like it. I could really do more with the stock one. The 2.3 is nice and it freed up a little space but I cant do much with it. I cant even put shortcuts or widgets on my homescreens if the app is saved to the sd card. So i either have to have a bunch of blank homescreens or no space on my phone just like the custom ROM to put things on the homescreens which kind of defeats the purpose of having an android.

So if anyone can help I really need it. I looked at some of the uscc roms toward the bottom of the xda page but there really is no info on them like the rest of the ROMs so I have no idea what is what or what is good.

You cant add widgets to home screens if you've moved them to SD card. Thats true, on any android ROM, Stock or custom.

You can look at going down the a2sd+ route and partition your SD card and flash an a2sd+ Script.

Or look at repartitioning your internal memory, although thats quite advanced.

Theres a thread here:

http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/360285-custom-mtd-cdma.html

The Drop box link to the files is dead so I've PM'd the thread author to see if he still has them.

Being that I cant even flash a new ROM on my own im probably not advanced enough to do that. I swear I feel more stupid every time I try to do something on this phone. Maybe ill try the a2sd+ thing. Or maybe its time to just give in and buy a different phone. Starting to think that even with rooting the cdma desire is always going to suck....

Yeah the Desire is a popular handset but not really the CDMA version. There are almost no dedicated CDMA devs left. Infact, maybe none.

I'm ready to move on from the GSM model already. I'd have been very frustrated if I had to be CDMA.
