Stuck Downloading Notification

Hey guys..

This problem is troubling me for over a week now.

I was downloading a small pdf file from my gmail app. The file didnt download and the notification continues to show and this "continuous" downloading eats up my battery completely. The file is not showing in my downloads folder/app that comes in my Galaxy S2. I cleared cache and data of my gmail but the "downloading" notification just wont go.

I have heard few peaople having the same problem and they ended up factory resetting the phone. I dont want to do that. Is there a solution??

Thanks

Shot in the dark.....turn off phone and pull battery and leave the battery out for at least a minute.

Also, delete the email from your gmail (perhaps via a browser while your phone's battery is pulled?)

I had a similar problem downloading a file with a different app and the only that that worked was uninstalling the app and then reinstalling.

@gtbarry: as you can read from my very first post, i have already tried clearing cache as well as clearing data of my gmail. It still doesnt help.

@LS1BadBird: Unfortunately, Gmail is un-unistallable. Moreover i feel its got to do more with "Downloads" than Gmail.

Does any other downloads hang that's not associated with Google Play? Like any other email downloads or browser downloads?

Not sure really.. i just upgraded to ICS last week.. I never had this problem for the last one year before this. Right now its just this file that's stuck.

I did a short search and found this, not sure if it will help or not but its worth a try.

Tap settings > apps > all apps > select download manager > tap force stop and clear cache.

Well..Call me an idiot.. I had come across that before.. But i couldn't find the download manager in Settings>apps as i was looking at downloaded apps instead of All apps..

Now after reading your post I looked at it more carefully and actually found it.. I cleared data and cache and the notification is gone! :)

Thanks for the help..

I got this after downloading a map, but in the end I removed it as follows. From the top bar pull down the 'notifications panel' and click on the download message near the bottom of the window!:smokingsomb:
