Root stuck in a bootloop

Well I managed to flash what appears to be the wrong Anthrax kernel because now I cannot get past the HTC splash screen. The good news is the phone starts to boot, but does not load the ROM though. Any idea on how to fix this? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Can you get into recovery? Should just be able to install a working kernel. Worst case, you can restore a nandroid backup.

I tried to flash back a working kernel from within recovery however the phone still did not boot into the ROM. I am restoring a nandroid as we speak. We'll see iif that fixes the issue.

Well restoring a nandroid did not fix the issue because I still cannot get past the HTC splash screen. Somebody please help me. Thanks.

I don't think the oc'ing is the issue because the phone was working fine until I flashed kernel version 3.0.29 or something like that. I now know the right Anthrax kernel version that I need to be up to date. It does me no good though because no matter what I have tried flashing a different kernel, doing a full wipe, restoring a nandroid none of which have worked. Anybody got an idea on how to fix this or else I will have to call VM for a replacement.

How high are you trying to oc?

Setting it to 1.5ghz should allow you to boot.

Can I fix this by using fastboot? If so how?
wow. i have posted this multiple times as a fix for most bootloops.. seems like a lot pf people are looping lately.. just push the stock boot.img thru recovery. you should still have in in your pc from the rooting process.. that will fix your issue. guaranteed

How to do this? Let mw know as soon as possible. Thanks.

I have just gone through a similar problem. If you want to you can either follow these steps, or skype me and I'll show you what to do. (I live in California and am available at 9PM.

0. (I did this step last and was lazy to change it) Download JMZ's Stock Odex Rom. And place it in the root of your sd-card. Found here.
[ROM] EVO V 4G Stock ROM Deodex/Odex

1. Install htc sync (contains the necessary drivers)
http://dl4.htc.com/managed-assets/support/software/htc-sync/setup_3.0.5606.exe

2. Download this and extract it to your desktop. Meaning you have to have the folder in your desktop.

3. Download this and put it on your sdk-tools folder that you have in your desktop.
http://androidforums.com/evo-v-4g-all-things-root/624303-clockworkmod-recovery-6-0-1-4-a.html

4. Boot into your boot loader and highlight fastboot, then press the power button. You should have "fastboot" highlighted in red. Connect your phone to your computer.

5. Open the sdk-toold folder. Press shift and right click at the same time in the folder. Select "open command window here"

6. Enter the following without quotes. "fasboot flash recovery recovery.img" after that it should say downloading or something along those lines. Once that's done go ahead and type this. "fastboot boot recovery.img"

7. Flash the stock rom by wiping everything.

8. You take it from here, either install a different recovery or keep it and do as you like. :D

Hboot 1.57 S-on... I just wish every little imperfection is wiped from the rom. The best looking UI so far :(

Finding a perfect rom that isn't Sense 3.6 is gonna be nearly impossible. Assuming we ever get CM10 FULLY working, which is unlikely, then Key Lime Pie will be out :P

Thanks to you guys I was able to fix the bootloop issue. I am now successfully running Mobster ROM 2.37 along with the latest Anthrax kernel oc'd to 1.56 GHz.

Actually I did not touch hboot. I am on 1.57 currently. I just flash everything through 4EXT with smart flash since I am s-on as well.

Enter the following without quotes. "fasboot flash recovery recovery.img" after that it should say downloading or something along those lines. Once that's done go ahead and type this. "fastboot boot recovery.img"

that is all you had to do to fix it.. the rest of the steps were unneccasary .. but im sure didnt hurt

Actually I already had most of the steps covered already so I did not have to do most of them.

Enter the following without quotes. "fasboot flash recovery recovery.img" after that it should say downloading or something along those lines. Once that's done go ahead and type this. "fastboot boot recovery.img"

They're necessary if they're S-On and thought of going into a rom without the stock kernel.
