Root Stuck in a Root (Bad Joke)

JBell1992

Hey all. New here.

First of all let me explain I am a complete and utter newbie when it comes to rooting etc. I decided to give it a go due to boredom so I hope I made the right decision. I'd also like to apologise because I'm sure there's an abundance of threads like mine but with all the technical slang etc. I just don't understand it!

So I've been following a tutorial on how to root my Wildfire S and I've come to a halt. I'm just after transfering ClockworkMod (?) and Root Script to my root folder of my SD (I think). Rebooted my device into bootloader mode and at the moment on my phone it states:

CID incorrect!
Update Fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot.

Help me

Thank you, and sorry again.

I probably can't be of a lot of help with this device but I might be able to at least answer what's happening. Is one of the files you are trying to use named PG76IMG.zip? Inside that zip, there is an android-info.txt file and it specifies a cid number. It's possible that someone made this for a different wildfire version and the info.txt specifies the cid for that device. Usually it would be a safe bet to unzip, edit the text file to reflect your cid, then zip it back up name as PG76IMG.zip and try again.

However without knowing your device specifically I don't necessarily feel confident telling you to go ahead and do it, as I wouldn't want to carry the guilt if something was to happen to your phone.

Just for the sake of at least finding out, open the android-info.txt and see what it says. for my 3vo, this is the cid: cidnum: SPCS_001

You will see the part that says cidnum: xxxxxxxx (the x's being whatever cid is specified).

To see what your phone's cid is, connect to PC, and if you have adb and fastboot you can use the command fastboot getvar all and it will list your cid in the returned data. Then you can compare and see if it is different than the one in your zip file.

Like I said, it's probably safe to change it to your cid, but I cannot guarantee this as I've not had the experience with your specific device.

It might be best to wait for Scotty85 or someone else who knows for sure to chime in. Scotty would probably suggest to super cid the phone if it's GSM, because it simplifies this a lot. With CDMA phones there is one CID. It's not a big deal. But GSM has so many different versions usually that it's easier to super cid rather than edit every android-info.txt to meet your needs.

Here is a thread to check out by Scotty85 about super cid:
