Root stuck in boot loop

i have an lg esteem that i rooted. removed bloatware and flashed in black plague rom and kernel. changed system font and boot animation. everything was working perfectly. today i noticed it was acting laggey. i started playing with the cpu sliders in rom toolbox. i checked the box marked apply on boot. then i cranked the cpu to max which is about 2100. stupid because i know my phone locks up when i max the cpu but is fine at 1900. well i locked up the phone and just rebooted it like i normally would. now its stuck in boot loop. it goes through the lg animation, my animation then to the home screen where it says preparing memory blah blah blah right? at this point the phone freezes and reboots it self. other details....i do have backups in the phone and on another sd card. i do have cwm recovery in there but every time i do the volume button thing it takes me to th lg reset data screen not the cwm. suggestions? should i try the factory data reset

Flash a kernel :D Either that or wipe data but the kernel is a lot easier :D

Oh and that screen for factory reset is just a dummy screen. Just tapp your power and "do the rest" and your phone will reboot into CWR
