Help Stuck in Reboot Loop

brane

Lurker
I'm hoping someone smarter than me can help me with this puzzle...

My Burst just started rebooting itself after nothing unusual happening. It gets to the end of the AT&T animation, then starts rebooting as if from power down.

I would like to be able to either get past the rebooting, or be able to recover my user data (photos) from the internal storage.

I can get into recovery mode, but I don't want to wipe my user data. I've tried to use adb while in recovery mode, but my device is not found.

Started researching Odin and fastboot, but I've only scratched the surface and do not know if they can help.

Any ideas?

Unless you did something you're not thinking of to cause the problem, no.

Try a safe mode boot. If it boots, one or more apps that you installed are causing the problem. If not it can be anything from a firmware glitch (which a non-destructive reflash would cure - the carrier may be able to do that) to memory gone bad (which requires at least new memory and guarantees that all your data is lost). There's no way we can guess what the cause is.

I appreciate the quick reply! I did not even know that there was such as thing as "safe mode" for Androids, but as far as I can tell from searching the web, for the Burst you hold down the menu while booting.

And in fact, the boot process did go farther, I saw it display the lock screen with the alert at the top of the screen that it was preparing the SD card. However, I was unable to unlock the screen, and after a few seconds the phone rebooted again while still trying to prepare the SD card. This happens with or without my external SD card, so I presume it's referring to internal storage.

If the internal storage is indeed an SD card, maybe someone knows how I can get to it (physically) so as to remove it and view the contents on another burst (my wife has the same phone).

Alternatively, from what I've read on a lot of forums, it *should* be possible to use adb while in recovery mode - I just can't get it to work. Was wondering if I'm missing something obvious.

I will see if I can track down how to do a non-destructive reflash.

Well, I never could get dab to work in recovery mode. Also, AT&T had no solutions. But the good news is that I went ahead and did the recovery mode wipe/reset, and the photos and videos that were on internal storage were still there! I was under the impression that the factory reset would erase everything in internal storage. Guess not. Whew!
