Help Stuck on Droid Red Eye screen

kayzeem

Newbie
Let me preface this by admitting that while I can navigate around my bionic alright, I do not have any technical knowledge of the workings of my phone.

My phone has not been running well for a while. A few days ago, I dropped it and the battery came out. It was working fine for a few days. I don't think there were any system updates or anything.

Then yesterday, I was on a long road trip and my phone died. This morning I charged it, and when I tried to turn it on, it won't boot past the red eye. I have tried to take out the battery and replace - red eye; I have tried to take out the sd card and replace - red eye. After googling (which I really shouldn't have done, as I don't understand half of what I saw people talking about) I tried to get to the recovery screen, and after selecting "recovery" it went to the "little droid guy getting surgery" screen for a while before going black and then back to the damnable red eye. It's been on that for about 30 minutes now. I am due for an upgrade next month but needed this phone to hang on until then. My biggest concern is that I kept telling myself I was going to learn how to move my photos/videos to my computer (since I don't think all of them are on my SD card, and are rather in the internal storage - or do they automatically go on the SD card?), but I never got around to it, and I had my first baby 8 months ago and have all of those pictures and videos I desperately don't want to lose.

Please please tell me that there is some hope to recover my pictures. I don't care about anything else like contacts, just those pictures and videos. Also, be kind and remember that if you use words like "rooting" or "flashing", I have (seriously) no clue what you are talking about. I am able to follow instructions, but I have to at least know what a word means. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to AF and I am sorry your phone is acting up. We should be able to fix this you.

You almost made it into recovery, when you see the droid getting surgery you need to press both volume buttons again to enter recovery. Once there try and wipe cache and dalvick cache under the wipe settings to clear any junk that might day issues booting. This is the easiest thing to do.

To do this follow the steps outlined here.

If hat does not work we will have to put new software on your bionic. Follow the steps in this thread http://androidforums.com/bionic-all...9-905-gb-6-7-246-ics-98-72-22-jb-rsdlite.html

I would try the modified versions first as it will preserve your pics and videos. If you know what operating system you had it would be a big help. It would has been either ginger bread ice scream sandwich or the latest jelly bean. If you do not know it use the modified jelly bean file 98.72.22 as that is the latest and will also preserve your data.

Good luck. If you need help pm me or just post here and I will get the message.

... excellent advice.

If you have a card reader available on your PC I would recommend pulling the SD-Ext card first and see what you can read off it on your PC.

Unlike machines, us humans sometimes forget. Maybe you will luck out and find all the pictures you care about are actually on the SD-Ext card and your recovery is done.

Thanks so much! I am pretty sure I have the latest Jelly Bean software. I just tried to get into recovery again, but couldn't get a menu when pressing volume up and down on the icon screen. It just sat there.

I guess I should try the next option?

Thanks, I definitely will check my SD card. Hopefully I forgot as you said, and it's all on there. I don't care about the phone or anything else on it.

Power OFF
Hold down Volume down/volume up/power
When menu appears ...
Hit volume down ONCE
Hit volume up
When Android on his back appears ...
Hit volume down/volume up at same time
When menu appears ...
Hit Volume down to bottom of list
Hit power
When it completes ...
Hit volume up to top of list
Hit power

When the android is on his back and I hit volume down/up at the same time, no menu appears. It just stays on the icon of the android on his back.

Hold them for one second and then release them.

Try it a couple of times. If it doesn't;t work ... do what OutOfPhase suggested.

I definitely was holding them down too long. Was able to get to the menu and wipe the cache, but alas, reboot led to the awful red eye. I also checked my SD card on my computer and no luck there.

So, I will attempt to move on.

Sounds like you need to follow the second step and put new software on your phone.

Okay, so I got started with the other instructions and while it all is making sense for the most part, when I checked the file to see if the sums matched, they were different. Is it possible I messed this part up somehow? I downloaded the file for the modified 98.72.22 FXB , but when I selected the file in the sum checker it was different from the sum provided in the forum.

Thats it. I will change my md5 sum on the other page to match.

I got as far as selecting decompress and flash, the program ran for a bit and then now says "Fail" under result and "Failed Flashing Process 1/23 flash mbm..." under Status. Should I try it again, or is the end of the line for me?

No. Try it again and make sure you have your phone in fastboot. Rsdlite can be picky. If that doesn't work there is a manual way

Went further this time but failed at 5/23. I'll try it a couple more times, and then may have to try manual, if it's something I can do myself. Thank you so much for all of your assistance!

I would try it one more time but you might have a hardware issue going on.

I think that must be it. I tried it again and had the same result. It was worth a shot!

I honestly cannot thank you enough for helping me out; I never would've known what to try!!

I am having the same problem as the OP and have followed all of the steps and advice on this thread.

After all of this I am back to the red eye, I'm trying to recover 900+ photos and videos off of the internal storage of the phone.

What did the OP end up doing?

Does anyone have any advice?
