Help Stuck on lock screen after update

kristieb1

Newbie
I upgraded to 4.2.2 about a week ago. After that my phone lagged horribly. Two days ago it started getting stuck on the lock screen. Yesterday it wouldn't respond to my swipes at all. I couldn't even turn the phone off (had to remove battery). In the end I tried a factory reset. It worked great for an hour - it responded to my swipes just fine (so I don't think my screen is damaged). Then it got stuck on the lock screen again. :-\

Some dude at Verizon said I'd have to get a replacement through my insurance. I already did that in August. I'm not doing it again for $99. So I went and bought a different phone. But my husband is interested in using my GN (he's still using a Thunderbolt lol). So what the heck is going on with my phone? Is this all because of the 4.2.2 update?

I wish I could help you out. Haven't seen this mentioned before (but that's just me).
Can you take it in and have the update reapplied?

I read in another thread that widgets were causing problems. I am using a clock widget that I got from the marketplace. Its clock is on my lock screen. Maybe that is part of the problem??

It could be if the app has compatibility issues with 4.2.2. It would certainly make sense if the phone was fine after a factory reset, and then after applying the widget to the lock screen the effect comes back. 4.2.X introduced lockscreen widgets to AOSP, so depending on when the app was updated last, it might know how to handle being in this position because it's so new.

Ok I think it was the clock widget. The phone randomly let me swipe back into it, so I'm factory resetting it again and not reinstalling that widget or any others that would show up on lock screen lol. I already bought and activated a new phone, and my hubby will use the Nexus. We're both happy with this plan. Thanks guys for your thoughts and ideas (in here and other threads).

1. I think it very likely it is an app issue. I had the same thing. It runs CPU at 95%+ all the time. Looks like something is trying to download all the time.... Probably a widget.

2. Verizon tried to tell me it was the battery and I should buy one for $79.99 from them. After I reminded him that Sprint gave extended battery free, he changed gears. Then they said I should replace phone through insurance. I told them I wasn't going through insurance for a software issue. Verizon said Samsung did update. I reminded them the update comes through them. They replaced my phone as warranty.

3. Strangely they didn't ask me to do a factory reset. Only time in history they didn't think it would solve problem.
