Help Stuck on the Hboot screen

StephDub

Lurker
Hello,
I removed and added music last night on my HTC Desire and everything was working fine until this afternoon.
My phone restarted and I am now stuck on the HBoot.
I cannot select any option by pressing the volume or power buttons.
Sometimes, few lines in green are showing up for less than 1 secondes looking for different files ( for instance, PB9901AG.zip)

if a file is missing on the SD (according to the SD card), Would it be not possible to download it somewhere and add it?

Is there another solution?

Thank you for your help.

The stuff that flashes up is normal and nothing to do with your problem.

Not being able to select items using the volume keys is not normal. Can you move through the menu with volume but not select with power, or can you not move through the menu? If the latter, were the volume keys working before? The way you get into hboot is by pressing the volume down key while booting, so if that sticks on it will produce this result.

Had you had any instability in the phone previously? Got it damp at any time in the past?

What happens if you take the battery out for a while then try again?

And is the phone rooted (I guess not)?

Hi Hadron,

Thanks for helping,

I kept both volume keys pressed and pressed the power key.
I am now able to select the different options by pressing the volume keys. :D

Which option should I select to get my phone working again? Recovery or Fastboot?

It depends on what's caused the problem. After doing this, and having the volume keys working again, will the phone boot normally? If you've physically unstuck the keys that might be the solution in itself.

Otherwise, to be honest with an unrooted phone we don't have many options. If you select recovery you'll have the option of wiping the phone (erase all user data = factory reset). You have to press something to get the menu, but can't remember what (haven't had a stock recovery for over 2 years). If the problem is some corrupt app data this will fix it. Media and backups on SD will be fine, but all apps and app data will go.

Otherwise, if you select "fastboot" you'll be able to connect it to a PC and run a ROM Update Utility to completely replace the software. This should fix any software problem (unless the RUU flash fails, which occasionally happens), but will also factory reset the phone. You'd need to choose the right RUU for your network - check the versions before just choosing one, and if in doubt ask. Your phone is one of the later hardware revisions, so the earliest RUUs will not work on it (you have a LCD screen, and early ones were only for AMOLED). You can find RUUs for a GSM Desire at shipped-ROMs.

If you want to rescue your data, to be honest the only hope is that you've unjammed the keys and there was nothing else wrong. Try leaving the battery out for a few minutes and see whether anything improves. Because if all we can do is get into the bootloader then recovery and fastboot are our only options, and on an unrooted phone the only things you can do in those 2 modes are wipe and flash an RUU respectively. :(

In fact, the phone went out of battery, so I charged it and the phone booted normally.
Everything is back to normal!

Problem is fixed !

This will save me the
