Help Stuck pixel (Green) - mostly fixable though

rnelsonee

Newbie
I've had the Nexus since the 15th, and while playing around yesterday, a pixel in the middle of my screen got stuck green. It was pretty noticeable, especially on black backgrounds.

Fortunately, I'm running Pixel Fixer, and it's mitigated. I'm going to run it for another 20 minutes and hope it goes down even more. There's a chance I'll try to return it (anyone know if VZW has a policy? A quick Google search uncovered one guy who said they replaced his HTC phone with only one bad pixel).

I just wanted to put this out there in case people like to monitor such issues!

Thanks, and welcome to the forum! I thought I had a stuck pixel yesterday, then it turned out to just be a bit of schmutz on the exterior of the screen. :)

I just picked up my Nexus yesterday, 12/17. I was browsing in night mode when I noticed a blue pixel against the black/grey background near the top left corner of the screen. It was there for only a few minutes, then went away. Later, it came back but with a red pixel near it. Upon closer inspection, I noticed a short thin 'line' going through both of these pixels causing me to believe that the stuck pixels were result of a defect in the manufacturing process. I took it back to the VZW store that day to point out the stuck pixels, but they did not show when I tried to point out the problem. It seems to come and go at random.

Also, my Nexus has crashed and rebooted twice since I got it yesterday. Not sure if this is hardware or software. I'll continue to see how the phone runs through this week, but considering that both problems occurred the same day I got my phone, I'm leaning toward asking for a replacement. My only concern is if they will do a replacement if I can't show or prove that it has stuck pixels or crashes.

If it's a pixel that is able to be seen every time, and they can verify it at the store, you shouldn't have any issues swapping it out as a Warranty Issue.

Yeh I know some LCD TV brands want at least 2 or 3 stuck pixels before they will let you swap. That would be cool if all a phone needs is one since the real estate of screen size is smaller.

Update: I exchanged the Nexus with no problem at the retail VZW store. A quick swap of the 4G SIM, and after unlocking the bootloader, I signed in and Android Backup ran its course (all Market apps downloaded, wallpaper and WiFi networks set, but then I had to do a lot of setting changes in each app). I'm pretty much back to 100% how I was before.

BTW, Samsung's warranty page leaves much to be desired - it says dead pixels only apply to TFT-LCD (which may be true, but I don't think so...), and after 7 days there is a 7-pixel minimum. Before 7 days, no minimum. It then describes stuck pixels, but gives no additional warranty information about such pixels.
