Stupid Camera sound..

I remember way back when being able to silence phone cameras caused serious drama because kids were snapping photos at no-no areas lol.. was wondering if that's why the international version doesn't have it... due to laws in diff countries. But it's not like we can't silence it one way or another.. so I'm really lost as to why this feature is seen only on the at&t version. This is one of the first things I noticed when switching from my at&t version to the international one.

The camera sounds can be disable with root access.

Use Root Explorer or Root Browser and navigate to:
/system/media/audio/ui/

I renamed the following files so that they couldn't be found by the camera application:
Cam_Start.ogg (to Cam_Start.ogg.bak)
Cam_Stop.ogg
camera_click.ogg
Camera_click_short.ogg
Shutter.ogg
Shutter_multiple.ogg
VideoRecord.ogg

After a reboot the camera shouldn't make shutter noise. You can also selectively disable the focus and timer sounds by altering their corresponding files.

Hi,
Can you please let us know how to mute the shutter sound with tasker application..I have no idea how to do it..i tried something with tasker..but nothing worked out..So please help..Thanks in Advance

The UK version of the S3 does not have the same settings menu as the US version it seems as mine looks different to the image posted a few posts above :-(

No option to turn shutter sound off.

In Tasker, press + to create a new profile. Name it (shuttersound or something).

When prompted, choose the context Application > camera.

Now choose the new task (name it if you want) audio > silent mode > on.

Add exit task > audio > silent mode > off.

Done!

This does it for me...

I don't see an option to add "Exit Task" anywhere..where can i find this?

So on the ATT version one has turn off shutter sound, but on the Verizon version there is no option to turn off shutter sound. Of all things to pick a fight over, the carriers went with camera shutter sound? when will the commercial come out? crazy.

That camera sound drove me so crazy - it drove me to root. LOL. Blazer rom has no camera sound now. Yes!

hi all. First post. I have an AT&T galaxy S3 and am amazed that I can't turn off the camera settings audio commands. When I click on the gear button or anything on the left hand side of the screen it says out loud what button I pushed. I've tried everything but the only thing that turns this off is if you go to settings and turn off all phone sounds. I can't believe it's not an option in the camera settings to turn off these audio files. Anyone know where they are located in the system as I am rooted and would delete them if i knew where they were. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I can confirm that if you mute your VZW phone, the shutter sound goes away.

I've tried it multiple times, and mute works 100%.

I am very annoyed at this. I have the Verizon S3 and the shutter sound ALWAYS plays.
I put the phone on mute using the notification bar, and still hear it.
I use the volume rocker and make sure all sounds are off, still hear it.
I really don't want to root, but I may have to.
I don't know why my Galaxy is like this, since it seems others on Verizon can mute it.
I started every sentence in this post with 'I'. :)

On the International version, if you put the phone on Silent or Mute, there's no camera shutter sound anymore. Thanks to that, I used "Tasker" to make the phone go automatically on "Mute" when I enter the camera app, and get back to Normal when I exit the camera app.

I have a UK version and I dont have the shutter option neither, although, when I put it on vibrate or silent there is not shutter noise.

I am rooted and have installed Omega rom since day one so that maybe why I can disable it.

Also I believe its a safety feature, I read somewhere that middle eastern phones has to have the noise to avoid pervy pics of girls lol.
