Yes, I know, the official specs show this phone as a dual CPU 1.2GHz. But I have seen plenty of tell that benchmark apps show this phone as 1.5GHz. Which is correct? Is this actually a faster CPU, or is it a model mistake in a benchmark listing?

This phone is definitely 1.5 ghz (snapdragon s4 msm8960 + adreno 225)

LG and Metro market it at 1.2ghz for some lame reason I don't know. lol

it's a 1.5ghz that is suppose to be factory clocked "set" at 1.2ghz. How ever for what ever reason, most of them are coming off the line clocked to the 1.5ghz. My feeling is that they advertise it at 1.2ghz so that it doesn't pull sales from the GS3.
