Stuttering/non starting video tip

On a great number of kernels that I have tried in the past, I have found that whilst they work for me in the main and allow me to u/c, I have sometimes found that either my videos will not play immediately or that I have to press the Play button a couple of times and then the Home button and then re-enter Gallery and the video, and all subsequent videos, will play OK until the next reboot.

Also, sometimes, a kernel will work perfectly except that I may encounter a slight stutter in video playback which does put me off an otherwise super kernel.

By accident, I have hit upon a solution that has worked on 3 kernels that I have experienced this on. It is as follows:-

Download, free from the Market, QuickPic:-

https://market.android.com/details?...51bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5hbGVuc3cuUGljRm9sZGVyIl0.

Install it and then go to Gallery and try to play a video. You will be asked to select either QuickPic or Gallery and to choose a Default. If you want to test it then ignore the default and just choose QuickPic.

Hopefully, you will not get either the false start or stutter.

Of course you could always just replace Gallery with QuickPic but I like the Gallery set-up and just use QuickPic for video playing.

Hope this helps. :D

I put this on about a month back and found it very good to use, but prefer the UI to the stock gallery app. Swings and roundabouts as usual! :)

Yeah, just down to personal preference I suppose and what you're used to.

As I mentioned, it just so happened to cure a problem that has been bugging me on-and-off, over quite a few months and various kernels.

I just hope it might help someone else. :D

Do you get the stutter on videos that you have taken on the handset, or videos you have taken from another device and transferred over?

On both sometimes but my biggest problem was the having to, "kick start", the videos.

Strange butty. I've never had that problem.
Only trouble I get is on videos I've taken on my camera and transferred over, and these lag, probably due to the difference in resolution/frame rate.

I'll see how QuickPic works for me on my transferred videos.....

Edit: Yup, its the same on both apps. Stuttery on my transferred vids.

Do you get the wakeup problem on all or only some certain ones?
perhaps is related to file size?
