Root SU Binary Needs Update

I have been wondering the same thing.

If it works from Play Store, can I use Link2SD to update the system App once I install it? If it works from Play Store, why does bg4m3r's guide have me use a recovery zip to install it?

I guess I want to understand it better before I change something.

If you mean about SuperSU -

SuperSU, like all superuser access, consists of two parts - a binary library and the apk that provides the bridge between apps needing root access and that library.

The library must exist before the Play Store update / install will work.

The way to establish it is by flashing the SuperSU.zip from recovery.

There had been problems with SU installing correctly at that point. Once you are upgraded and all is working, you can install from the play store, switch to a different app, whatever. Yes, you can use link2sd to integrate updates.
