successful returns for light leakage?

Does anyone here have the Sprint insurance? If so, why worry? Use the phone till it breaks/stops working and get a new one for no extra money.

It costs $100 for the replacement, the Evo is considered a "high end device" they raised it from $50, it used to be free, but they changed that after they started getting a lot of smartphone's replaced.

The 100$ fee is only if you lose or physically damage your phone. This was stated above. Everything else is a free replacement.

Where is this light leakage? At the very very bottom of it by the base and under the four buttons I see a little bit. But I really don't see what the concern is. Is this what you guys are talking about? My phone works fine, I thought it was just made that way. Does anybody have any photos of the light leakage?

Yes, people are complaining about the sliver of light you see in a couple spots when you're in a dark room.

Yes. What folks are talking about. I have it, use a case so neither see it nor obsess about it. My phone is awesome too and couldn't care less assuming nothing more comes of it.

I can see a little light coming from the bottom beneath the home key in complete darkness but nothing worth returning it for. The screen itself looks exactly like it did from day one so I'm thinking the issue was there from the start. I have a platinum hardcase on the phone so I can no longer see the light. I guess if it starts to really separate I'll just use the manufacturer warranty. I'm still undecided if I want to get any kind of insurance since I'm eligible to get a new phone ever year.

I just want to confirm for eveyrone asking as well, the $100 deductible is for heavily damaged, water damage, lost or stolen phones. Repairs and manufacturer issues are all covered completely free of charge, and are usually either repaired on site, same day if possible, or replacements are shipped next day.

Or a lighted room like mine. It's really not so much the backlight leakage more so what's causing it. Like others have said over time dust and moisture gets behind the screen which isn't good.

Can anyone confirm if the manufacturers warranty will cover this? If the screen does actually start to separate and allow dust / dirt to get beneath?

I understand the fustration, but should that become an issue all you will need to do is stop by and store and get a new one. I don't see it as that big of an issue, if you have an insurance. If you don't, then I feel for you.

i'll tell you after Best Buy quits hiding phones and saying they dont have any in stock. It's getting old. WtF do you do if the 30 days runs up and they "dont have any in stock".

I think im going to go in on day 28 and be like "look, you have to follow policy. Write me a written gaurantee signed by a manager that I get a replacement and give me an estimate delivery date."

Hate to burst youre bubble but that wont happen at best theyll take youre name down to call you when its in. You have to understand the phone just came out plain and simple.

I went into my local store Wednesday to discuss why my wife's State employee discount wasn't showing on our account and while we were there we discussed the light leakage / screen issues with them. They told us they were aware of the issues and they had already done a few replacements. I questioned whether it would be better to wait a few months until the 3rd or so production runs and was told by the rep that he was doing exactly that with his. Mine isn't too bad at the moment, if it gets worse I'm definatly bringing it back in the next few month.

I did notice while i was there that one of the demo units had a really bad case of raised screen and pointed it out to the reps.

I'd like to see what this light leakage too. I only see light coming up if I look down from above the phone at an angle. I;m assuming this is not what people are talking about? If I look at the phone from any normal angle I see no light leakage whatsoever. Either that or I don't know what to look for to complain about.

You guys are not alone. Check mine out. I can fit my blockbuster membership card in the gap. :( Just waiting for some more to be in stock.

Wow! To see it is to believe it. I didn't realize it was that dramatic. That's crazy and I would not accept that either.

It can or will get worst in time. Its faulty adhesive. Good luck though.

The issue is that they are pretty much sold out. :(

Sorry for the back to back to back post. Can a mod combine them please.

I called and he said just return it since i am still under 30 days. He said i didnt need an exchange ticket, just to take it back. I'm getting really frustrated with this. I've already had to return 1, now, my perfectly working EVO is gonna have to go back....

I can visibly see the bottom part of the screen is above the bezel and I can even push down on the screen and it will sink below the bezel....I'm afraid of returning it for fear of getting a phone with bigger problems, the same problem, and having to deal with the reps on this issue......

I'm seriously considering doing the unthinkable and just getting an iphone....I hate AT&T with a passion but i've had more frustration and problems with Sprint in 2 weeks than I had with my previous carrier in 6 years.....

How is this Sprint's fault? It's HTC's fault...

Mine has actually gotten worse in daylight. I went by best buy today and they're expecting a new shipment in the next week. Gave them my name and number and they said no problem with swapping them out.

I took my EVO to the Sprint store today to exchange it. My EVO has very bad backlight bleed. I'm not concerned with bleed under the buttons. Mine is showing on the LCD screen above the buttons. i compared it with two demo units at 2 different stores ant there was no comparison. Mine was like 4 times worse. The first store told me there was a waiting list and that they had to work through that list first before I could get mine exchanged. I was not too happy about this.

The second store(the store I originally purchased from) said they didn't have any and would try to repair it first. I wasn't happy about this either being that the phone is two weeks old and I paid FULL retail for it. It just doesn't seem like a new phone anymore when someone has to work on it. Anyway - I let them take it to the back and come back an hour later. The lady hands me the phone and said they put a new screen on it. Well - I could still see the backlight bleed but it was not nearly as bad as before but not as good as the display model. i told her I still wasn't happy with it and she said she would call me when they got new ones in and I could exchange it. Also they appeared to have installed a screen protector(more on this later).

After getting home(an hour drive) I noticed the battery cover wouldn't snap down in one corner. I pulled it off and notice the screw on the corner wasn't in all the way. Something just didn't seem right about the phone. I pulled the battery and looked at the serial number and MEID numbers. NONE of them matched my original box ----WTF---. I did a ##786 and the numbers there matched my original box. So - - - it seems that they tried to pull a fast one on me. I've got someone elses phone. They had to have cloned EVERYTHING off my old phone to this one. I thought they may have just swapped housings but the tag with all of the numbers is attached to the main board. Oh - and the screen protector had scratches on it. I was only looking for backlight bleed in the store and didn't notice this. Needless to say I'm furious. Guess I'll just have to wait for them to get more in stock
