Help Sudden Power Drain

Greetings...

So for a couple months my tbolt battery has lasted a good 18hrs or more with the screen off, radios off, ect...

But, ever since a couple of days ago there is an icon in the status bar (some location indicator crosshair) that I can't getrid of (all location services off, which were on when it was lasting 18hrs), and my battery drains, in screen-off mode in about 3 hours.

Yes... All radios off, screen off, everything off... 3 hours of battery life! WHAT THE F#

Check to see if PvmtpServiceStart is running. I noticed Blockbuster app was updated yesterday along with a number of other apps on my phone. If the aforementioned is running kill it as the battery only lasts 3-4 hours on my phone if the app is left on.

I have teh same problem. Phone will not go longer than a few hours, I even replaced the battery with a new one, same deal. I did have the pvmtpServiceStart running and closed it. How do I make sure it does not open again?

Anytime the phone restarts or you turn it off and back on the PvmtpServiceStart program will restart automatically. Also make sure auto update is disabled in the Blockbuster app and then kill PvmtpServiceStart again. It's a pain but I check it once or twice a day particularly in the morning in case the phone rebooted. btw I run push on (heavy emails) and have not disabled any apps, dimmed the screen, etc. and usually get through the day until about 10PM. Also keep in mind 3G/4G and switching to 1X will burn through the battery if you have weak signal. Sitting behind 3 monitors kills my signal so I usually lay the phone on the desk beside the monitors where the signal is ok and the battery lasts fine.

I noticed after the last update the Block Buster app keeps restarting constantly and killing the battery. In this version there does not seem to be anywhere you can stop auto update in the app. Out of frustration I went into apps and removed the Block Buster updates and killed it off again along with its two "Pvmtp" apps. So far it has remained off and should only reappear after turning the phone off and back on or a reboot. Man if the OTA doesn't show up soon its root time for me

Same issue here, battery has been fine until the last 3 or 4 days, now draining super fast for unknown reason. Tried above suggestions, but same deal.

That program needs to die a horrible death for the crimes it has committed against battery life.

Seeing as it is bloatware the only way to get rid of it is rooting

I know that one of the last three people who have commented is against rooting, but let me tell you that I was at one time as well. If you could take one hour of your day and read the top five threads (the ones at the top of the page) here: Thunderbolt - All Things Root - Android Forums you would be doing yourself a favor, seriously. By the end of the weekend, you could have your phone rooted and free of the problems you're having now!

A lot of mention has been made in the past about how it's time consuming. Quite frankly, you are most likely spending more time trying to figure out how to solve a problem that can't be fixed by conventional methods alone. Even more, you're probably wanting to get another phone because you think that will solve the frustration you have. Fact is, it won't. You may also think, "This next update will surely fix the problem". The fact is, it may temporarily solve your problem, but most likely, it won't.

In addition, the new update won't allow to root your phone. This has been said repeatedly in this forum by people who you know, know stuff.

If you really like what the phone can do, you really should consider rooting. Doing so will allow you to do quite a bit more and eliminate the problems you currently have.
