Suggest the antivirus for 2010

MS Security Essentials. As others have said, it's incredibly lightweight and effective; doesn't slow down your start-up time at all and doesn't get in the way like some other anti-viruses do.

Either he's not opened any file in his life, used a virus checker online (browser based) or uses another operating system apart from windows. :)

A lot of things, email attachments from an infected computer, porn sites, and yes warez. :)

Hope you don't have a virus though, since you don't have an anti-virus software to even check. If I were you I'd go to check on those online anti-virus sites just to check. And you can also download an anti-virus software for free too. Some have already provided excellent free anti-virus software from the post above.

NOD32 and Kaspersky are my favorites at the moment, though I don't personally use anything. Avast is a great freeware AV though.

I hated Norton for years after they started bloating their software unlike the good ole DOS versions they had years ago. However, starting with Norton Internet Security 2009, they are very lightweight, fast and effective. This paired with MalwareByte's Anti-Malware app, you have a pretty good package.

In the past, I have also used NOD32 because it's lightweight, fast and effective

I believe in Avast so much I purchased 115 two-year licenses of their enterprise suite at work. I have not seen a better antivirus in my experience (but I have seen a lot worse... I'm looking at you, Symantec Endpoint Protection).

I don't use Antivirus. I rarely get viruses and when I do, I format and reinstall (I like to do that about every 6 months anyway)...I keep all of my files on my other 2 hard drives, so my C drive stays pretty clean so a reinstall is easy...Next time I do it though, I'm going to ghost it to make it even easier...

I hear that Nod 32 is really good...And Norton is not bad anymore if you JUST install the Antivirus and not all of the other bloatware...

As others here have said Microsoft Security Essentials is great. It's free, and it is easily better than any other antivirus I've ever used. It does a better job than AVG, Mcafee or Norton.

OS X. Best antivirus on the market IMO. But I'm assuming most people here aren't too fond of Apple. We use Windows XP at my work. The IT guy there swears by AVG. It's free, and according to him, uses less resources than Norton.

I've had 4 different AV's on my HP laptop since I got it in December. I've tried Norton (free trial from the PC purchase), AVG, Avast and now MSE. Of all of these, MSE uses the fewest resources and allows for faster bootup/login.

I am sure it has been said, however I am an IT Professional and i see this all the time. You no longer need just an antivirus program. You need to have malware, spyware protection and antivirus protection. they come all in one in the form of internet security. I run Norton IS 2010 because it came with my laptop, but it is a beast. It takes a lot of system utilities to run but my laptop can support that. You can use AVG, Malwarebytes and Superantispyware and scan weekly or so ant you will be fine! But the most important thing is to surf safely!

I use free versions of Avira, Malwarebytes, Spyware Blaster, Spybot, Super AntiSpyware, and Comodo firewall. I only use Avira and Malwarebytes to scan weekly, and update Spyware Blaster whenever I remember. Other than that, I just use the other programs if I think Malwarebytes missed something.

The best FREE combination is Avira Free and ZoneAlarm (or Comdodo). These are generally known as the best options, in terms of number of virus definitions, and speed.

AVG is terrible, it always scores towards the bottom in virus scanning tests (slow and low percentage of viruses recognised)

This is the combination I use. So far, so good. ;)

Same thing happened to me... darn trial versions. :)
I currently use Avast! Antivirus software coupled with MalwareBytes and Spybot Search and Destroy.

It's worked perfectly for a few months now. Crusin' right along.

After problems with Norton I changed to BitDefender 2 years ago. I've found it excellent and my desktop has been running fine since. I've just had a new PC delivered today so when I get home tonight then first thing I need to do is add on anti virus. 2 months free Norton is offered, and I'm tempted to give it another shot however if I do am I going to have to spend hours removing all the guff it dumps in your system??

I use Avast, MalwareBytes and Microsoft Security essentials and nothing has beat my laptop or desktop yet. By the way these are all free!
