Help suggested players/codecs to play videos?

the FE16 took and i havent worked on CTMOD. superuser is there. i added titanium back up and got rid of a few things i knew i wouldnt need. also tegrak overclock is being used but i still need to figure out the optimum settings.

still a no go on netflix. i had to reload youtube and all is well there.

my next step is to try ice stream and figure out which player to use. at this point i'm not really sure if the root is doing much for the ability to play vids

The ROM is where you will see the performance increase... rooting only gave you the ability to debloat/access system files...

how do i get the ctmod files to my phone and get them to run? is there a link to a step by step if i dont have a way to transfer them with my microsd card?

What do you mean? you're card is out of space? You have to install it from the sdcard. That's the only way.

If you mean you don't have a way to get them on the sdcard... You can simply download them straight to the phone, or transfer then with the same usb cable you used when you followed the first steps using Odin

all i have is the cable. i put the file on there and tried to open it but "there is no program" that will open. i dont have a card reader.....

Go back and read the guide :)... The file is a .zip .... It's meant to be installed using Clockwork Mod Recovery...(which was installed to your phone during the rooting process) it's not an application. This file will replace the ROM (operating system) on the phone.

Just take it slowly. Step by step... Read the whole guide, stop, reread it again, make sure you get a firm grasp of what you're doing... THEN give it a go. If you don't understand a step, come back and ask someone. :)

The biggest thing to remember is there is no such thing as a stupid question. Everyone here is super friendly and nobody will flame you for not understanding.

I do recommend trying the search feature (top right corner). A lot of times a question you may have has already been answered, but if not... That's exactly why were here. Too learn, to teach... To pass knowledge. Just be patient... It's really much easier than it seems

Hi,

download the CTMod3.68.zip ( Goo.im Downloads - Downloading CTMod3.68-Prevail.zip ) to your computer. Turn off your phone, make sure a sd-card is in the phone. Now boot into CWM Recovery ( Push down Vol+ and Power button and hold it till you see the blue menu) and connect your USB cable. Then on the menu select "mounts and storage" ( vol+ / vol- for up and down, Camera button to select ), next menu you need to select "mount USB storage" and your phone will connect to the computer and you should see a new drive letter in your My Computer !!!

Now copy ( NOT extracting ) the CTMod3.68.zip file you downloaded to the root of your sd-card ( the new drive letter you just got ). Then "unmount or disconnect the USB storage" and disconnect the cable, hit the "back button" on your phone to go to previous menu, there you will select "install zip from sdcard"..... select CTMod3.68.zip, sit back and relax !!!!

Use the " http://androidforums.com/galaxy-pre...od-rooting-prevail-dummies-written-dummy.html " to continue setting up the ROM and the DATA mode !

If you have any trouble, make a post in the "All things Root" section !! ;)

EDIT : Guess LV was again faster than I am.......... I am a slow typer in the morning ! LOL ;)

ctmod root success! looks cool as a cucumber....just need to learn how to tweak it.

HOWEVER, netflix is horrible and files from icestream still wont open with quick pic. i followed the root instructions to the Tee.

is it a memory issue or is it a media player issue?

the chrome imposter browser does gif animations fairly well. what plug in runs those and do they apply to videos as well?

thanks for all the help btw.....i'm green and all the instructions have been down pat. kudos

Go to your app drawer and open "Voltage Control" !

Set min. = 200 and max. = 924 ( but make sure you SAVE or APPLY it, than reboot and check if the settings are the one you choosed )

See if this solves your playback problems.

PS: If you encounter any strange problems, you may need to go with the max. down to 900 or 888 !

Just something to try, not sure if it will help.....

And for the memory or player issue, well, all you can do is to try different players....... But there are tons of them, some worst, some better. As I said earlier, I like PlayerPro, but I mainly use it for MP3, but converted MP4 movies run just fine..... Could be also a network issue ( or router issue ) if you stream Netflix via WiFi..... if you stream over 3G, might be a bad connection...... There are so many variables, it's hard to tell. It does not necessarely need to be something on the phone or ROM !

And always remember, people tried and have made out of a lame, mid-class Prevail a great and decent fast phone, however, due to it's age ( almost 2 years old ) there are limitations and you simply can't achive a Galaxy SII or SIII performance with the Prevail !
