Root Suggestion for a root sticky

Myself being new to rooting and doing a lot of reading about it, it would be nice if someone would (could) make a sticky about the benefits of rooting an Android phone. i.e. make a list of the pros and cons of doing so. As new suggestions are added then the list could be updated. This way newbies, like myself, could see the actual benefits and pitfalls of doing so in a single column list. This would be much easier than pouring through tons of post, like I have done and help those that are struggling with whether to root or not.

If you don't know what is benefit of rooting your device, may be you shouldn't do it... yet. This community is all about help you to do things right, avoid pitfalls and help to restore if something went wrong. But we don't want to convince you to do anything and then get blamed if you screw up. Make your decision and we here to help. There are step by step guides on rooting, theming, flashing, sbfing etc in sticky, plus we always here to answer questions.

The other thing is, the list of cons wouldn't really be a list at all...the only con is voiding your warranty (a big one I guess) and I guess getting in over your head and doing something you don't fully understand. Both of which can be fairly easily undone.

I do not believe requesting a sticky is to big of a stretch. Anyone that is interested in rooting their phone is going to probably come to this root thread to read about it. I am going to root mine and have been reading and searching for a while and that would have been a plus for me. All I am saying is it would be nice to have a listing of all the benefits from rooting your X and the cons also. If void warranty is the only con (which really is about the only one) then list that one con against the tons of benefits. It would just be nice to have it all listed in one location. That is not asking to much...I don't believe.

Yeah, not saying you don't have a point...it's a common question and might be a useful topic anyway even if it doesn't get a sticky.

I would, but don't think I can, I am not an admin. Most forums only allow for admin's to do sticky's.

I just thought it would be a good thing to have, because after reading a lot, it seems there are still a ton of newbie post (like most of mine) asking questions about the benefits or pros of rooting.

Well a lot of stickies start as normal threads that have a lot of nice info then someone comes along and organizes it all and then the mods think it looks good enough to make it a stick and you get credit it would be a collaborative effort.
